The 2025 Ram 1500 has been spied driving around for the first time with camouflage, suggesting modifications are coming for the full-size pickup truck. After superseding the competition when the 5th generation premiered at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January 2018, there have been minor changes with new exterior colors and trim packages. That is about to change with an expected facelift of the 5th generation due to come out either later in the 2023 model year or early in 2024.

What Can Be Gleaned About the 2025 Ram 1500 from Spy Photos

A spy photographer was able to capture the alterations on the new truck. Based on the details of the photographs, the prototype truck is running with heavily camouflaged front and rear fascias. There are signs of new headlights peeking through the camouflage, while the expected redesign to the grille is hidden behind two layers of disguise.

The rear end is equally concealed, with covered tail lights and a heavily shrouded tailgate. The interior is also highly masked, as indicated in the photos. According to the editors at Car and Driver, it is unlikely that anything other than the half-ton Ram’s front and rear ends will see notable cosmetic changes, as no other part of the vehicle is covered.

Impact of the Ram 1500 REV on its ICE-Powered Counterpart

With the release of official images of the battery-electric Ram 1500 REV, the electric vehicle gets revised front and rear fascias while leaving the overall cab untouched. The REV’s interior is stylishly neat but again utilizes much of the Ram 1500’s already class-leading interior. It is clear that the Ram REV will receive unique aesthetics, but it is possible that the electric pickup’s design may influence the direction of the restyling applied to Ram trucks fueled by internal combustion engines.

Whether the interior of the updated Ram 1500 will witness a meaningful overhaul is still an open question at this early stage. That said, Car and Driver got a glance inside the automobile and spotted a vertically oriented touchscreen display, which could potentially be enhanced with features not found on the current trim’s available 12.0-inch unit. Even though the alterations to the inside of the Ram will probably be minimal, it is likely that an updated infotainment system and a fully digital gauge cluster will be provided.

The Ambiguous Teaser Surrounding the 2025 Ram 1500

A Ram teaser video led many to believe that the refreshed Ram might be unveiled on May 10th, 2023, but the public relations exercise was only to announce the new Lunar Edition trims destined for the TRX and Rebel. However, the prototype caught in the most recent photographs is unrelated to the Lunar Editions. It represents something much more meaningful, a long-awaited update to the Ram 1500 lineup to contend with the updated Sierra 1500, Silverado 1500, and the Ford F-150, which will see not one, but two facelifts.

In addition, the grille is considerably larger than before, perhaps to facilitate enhanced cooling for the Hurricane engine. Car and Driver offers a description of what could await the truck under the hood: “Not only will the 2025 Ram 1500 benefit from updated styling, but it’s also expected to adopt Stellantis’s new Hurricane twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. Currently, the Jeep Wagoneer and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer are the only two models with the engine. Both pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission.”

The spy photos confirm a new Ram 1500 is coming and, while it appears to be a conventional mid-cycle refresh, it is good to see some changes for the truck.
