Gone are the days when trucks were created for one of two things – off-roading or being put to work, both of which meant a lack of interior comforts. Yet, time’s are a-changin’, and Ram is transforming their workhorses into luxurious pickup trucks, and the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel 12 Special Edition is no exception. Head of the Ram Brand, Jim Morrison, stated: “customers have been asking for additional high-end features on the Rebel, and now we’re delivering with benchmark technology and materials wrapped in off-road capability.”

Beginning with the power underneath the hood, for the 2019 model year, the Ram Rebel 12 Special Edition is offered on the Ram 1500 model with any cab, color, or powertrain configuration. The Ram Rebel 12 is powered by the standard mild-hybrid 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Consumers also have the option to upgrade to a 5.7-liter V8 engine or a mild-hybrid version that both produce 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. All engine options are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, plus a standard four-wheel drive system and an electronic-locking rear differential. Furthermore, the Rebel 12 rides on standard 33-inch Wrangler DuraTrac tires, comes with skid plates that protect the major mechanical components from scraping against the terrain and has Bilstein shocks for improved riding comfort.

When it comes to the infotainment system, Ram spared no expense. The most significant upgrade goes to the 12-inch infotainment system with navigation in comparison to the 8.4-inch display that’s standard on the Rebel trim. “Expanding the availability of the segment-leading Uconnect 4C 12-inch touchscreen is a direct response to market demand,” says Jim Morrison. The fourth generation of Uconnect included in the infotainment system features enhanced processing power, multi-touch gestures, vivid imagery, sharper graphics, and smartphone integrations via Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. Plus, SiriusXM with 360L on-demand content and state-of-the-art listening experience.

Considered by Ram “the finest audio system ever available in a pickup,” the 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel 12 Special Edition also features a 19-speaker Harman Kardon system with a 900-watt surround-sound amplifier, 10-inch subwoofer, and active noise cancellation. Similar to the rest of the 2019 Ram pickup truck lineup, the Ram 1500 Rebel 12 delivers an all-new interior cabin with leather-trimmed seating with heated front seats, black and red interior color theme, and notable metal speaker grilles accented with the Rebel’s signature Radar Red metallic-coated finish.

In addition to the amazing features included on the 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel 12, it seems that Ram has also decided to dust itself off and get back into the midsize pickup truck game, especially since Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) discontinued the Dodge Dakota in 2011. According to _ Automotive News _ , FCA, Ram Trucks parent company, is doubling down on the midsize market with this as-yet-unnamed body-on-frame truck and the forthcoming Jeep Wrangler pickup. Back in June, Mike Manley, newly-appointed CEO of FCA, promised consumers the truck in a presentation but was very discreet about the details – only mentioning that we should expect to see this new baby Ram sometime in 2020.

The 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel 12 has a starting MSRP of $48,685 (plus destination fee), compared to the standard Rebel that is priced at $44,695. Consumers should expect to see the Rebel 12 in dealerships during the fourth quarter of 2018.
