2016 Mitsubishi i-MiEV to Start Shipping Next Month – Miami Lakes Automall Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi dealers in Miami and around the country will get a nice surprise in March: Delivery of the 2016 Mitsubishi i-MiEV. The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is the smallest electric car with four seats sold in North America, and it was the first small, electric car introduced on the market.
The Mitsubishi i-MiEV first went on sale in 2012, but it skipped model years 2013 and 2015. Therefore, this will be only the third iteration of the electric car. It was sold earlier in Japan, starting with limited sales in 2008.
No details have yet been released about the 2016 i-MiEV. However, the 2014 model went on sale for $22,995, which was a $6,000 price cut. The 2014 model also got the CHAdeMO DC fast-charging solution, making it easier to take the car on longer trips. The 2014 model had a range of 62 miles on a 16-kilowatt-hour battery. The faster charging made it possible for drivers to “refuel” the car quickly to extend its range.
Despite the incentives offered on the 2014 model, it only sold a couple of hundred units. However, Mitsubishi is optimistic about the car’s future, and the automaker promises a new mix of options to better suit the tastes of current buyers. Mitsubishi is hopeful that the design changes will make the i-MiEV more competitive against the Nissan Leaf, which has routinely outsold it.
Mitsubishi is making a commitment to electric and hybrid technology. In addition to the i-MiEV, it is also introducing the 2016 Outlander, which is a plug-in hybrid SUV. No date has been confirmed for the Outlander’s release, but industry insiders expected to see it go on sale around the third quarter of this year.
