Kia EV9 Named “Family Car of the Year” During TopGear.com Awards
Wow, ever since the Kia EV9 all-electric SUV came to America, it has become a smash hit. Based on the Kia Telluride, the largest SUV in the lineup and the only vehicle to ever win the “Triple Crown” of automotive awards, it’s no wonder. Boxy and beautiful, the electric SUV has been winning many awards over the last few months, and given its suite of safety features, there is one type of consumer that will be happy to put their loved ones in the EV9. Recently named the winner of the “Family Cars” category during the Golden Steering Wheel 2023 awards, the Kia EV9 just won the title of “Family Car of the Year” at the 2023 TopGear.com Awards.

Sounds about right. The Kia Corp revolutionized its styling when it comes to its vehicles several years ago, called the “Opposites United” philosophy, found in many of its current and upcoming battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). The style of the EV9 is very reminiscent of the Telluride, leading us to think the latter was the platform for the former. Of course, this would be incorrect, because like the outstanding Kia EV6, the EV9 rides on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). Set to be replaced in the coming years, Kia and its parent group, the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), recently unveiled a contender called the Universal Wheel Drive System — or “Uni Wheel” Platform.
300 miles is a pretty nice range for a BEV these days, and thanks to a maximum DC charging speed of up to 230kW and an ultra-fast 800 Volt charging system, the EV9 battery pack can be recharged in as little as 15 minutes. Compatible with DC chargers and Level 2 charging, consumers can also get a Level 2 charging station installed in their homes for the luxury of recharging when parked in the garage. That all-electric range of (AER) jumps to 335 miles when choosing the rear-wheel drive (RWD) Long Range model.
Then there’s all the cool tech. Featuring two 12.3-inch touch screens that make up the infotainment system displays, powered by Kia Connect, the driver will instantly be wowed by how digital the cockpit has become. Offering advanced features like Kia’s Highway Driving Pilot (HDP) system (Level 3 autonomous driving) and a full 360-degree field of view, consumers can really live it up with a 14-speaker, 708-watt Meridian® Premium Audio system (available on select trims). Thanks to Kia’s next-generation, ultramodern Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) operating system, consumers can also expect Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Bluetooth wireless technology, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and steering wheel-mounted audio and hands-free phone capabilities.
A suite of safety features are also available, including many Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as Advanced Highway Driving Assist (AHDA); Lane Following Assist 2 (LFA-2); Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA-2); Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA-2), and many more. All that, and some of the best warranties in the auto industry, including a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty program. The Kia 10-year/100,000-mile warranty program consists of a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty (this includes the battery of the EV9) and a 5-year/60,000-mile limited basic warranty.
