The Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), umbrella group of the Kia Corp, has been working on revolutionary tech to improve the lives of consumers who buy their vehicles. Notably, Kia has been introducing some really cool stuff with the Kia Connect subscription service. We got a really good look at what Kia Connect can do during the Kia EV3 reveal and the kind of technology it will be bringing to enrich the lives of its consumers. Sometimes, such features may be hindered to the very thing they rely on – internet service. That’s why automakers tend to partner up with wireless services who have the most coverage possible. As for our neighbors to the north, that would be Bell Canada, and HMG recently announced a multi-year extension of their strategic partnership with Bell Canada to continue to provide Canadian customers with a better internet connection for their advanced in-car connected infotainment services.

“Bell has been a trusted partner of Hyundai Motor Group for the past seven years, providing superior services and innovation leadership. We are thrilled to take this relationship into the future to bring even more exciting in-car capabilities to the Canadian consumer,” – Haeyoung Kwon, Vice President of Infotainment Development Center at Hyundai Motor Group

Bell’s award-winning network is the corner stone for many brands, including Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis, when it comes to powering their connected car services. Able to enjoy fast and reliable access to infotainment features, consumers can get access to over-the-air software updates, music/video streaming, casual gaming, and eventually, Wi-Fi hotspots on-the-go. We saw some of this during the EV3 reveal. A great little number was a downloadable app from the Kia Connect store that can turn the cabin into a small cinema or lounge with a relaxation seat to stream shows, movies, and even YouTube clips while waiting for a vehicle to charge up – a great way to kill 30 minutes. Kia Connect and the Kia Connect store are really going to be the game changer with downloadable apps in upcoming vehicles, and we’re looking forward to what other apps will become available that allows consumers to fully customize the feel and look of the interior cabin.

None of it would be possible without an internet connection, and together, HMG and Bell will continue to develop additional features for car connected services. These include embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card (eUICC) that could lend itself to software-defined vehicle (SDV) technology in a mobile environment, advanced navigation, on-demand service like the EV3 feature we mentioned above, expanded voice recognition capabilities, and more new BEV features and functionality for consumers to enjoy. HMG and Kia are getting more digital every year, and we’re looking forward to what comes next. Modern Kia vehicles already offer 24 inches of digital screens to make the cockpit a more futuristic experience, and the EV3 claims the center console features a 30-inch widescreen display. Soon, the entire cockpit will be digital if SDVs make a breakthrough into the market. Will a stable and reliable internet network, anything seems possible these days.
