2024 Kia K4 Rumors
The Kia Corp seems to be following quite the pattern these days with its new model releases. Back in 2020, Kia launched its Plan S business strategy to become a global leader in battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and BEV sales. Prior to this, the automaker also announced it was going to become a GT brand, designing sports cars made for long trips on the road and higher performance. We’ve seen a little of both with BEVs and concepts such as the Kia EV6 in 2022, followed by the Kia EV9 in 2023, and several concepts – Kia EV5, Kia EV4, Kia EV3, and Kia EV8. We’ve also seen sports cars like the Kia Stinger that started the GT-Line and GT trim craze seen in many other models. The automaker also took older models and turned them into sports cars like the Kia Optima (now the Kia K5) and the Rio, now the Kia K3 in Mexico. The next model to get a sports car tune-up is the Kia Forte, now the rumored 2025 Kia K4!
Not much is known about the vehicle thus far. All the internet is talking about is the name. Primarily, the K4 moniker belongs to a compact sedan designed exclusively for the Chinese market. This is where the nameplate currently resides, and if past revivals are anything to go by, the new generation of the Kia Forte will take the name of its overseas model so new consumers aren’t confused between the Kia Forte of the past and the new sports car Forte. Like the Optima, after it was put out to pasture, its new generation was more of a sports car that delivered better performance than other Kia sedans and passenger cars – so going with a new name was obviously the better choice.
Sitting between the Kia K3 and Kia K5, the K4 will be somewhere in the middle when it comes to power. The 2024 Kia K5 is powered by a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine under the hood, able to generate 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. Consumers can also find a GT trim, equipped with a turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, able to generate 290 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. Although no definitive specs have been released for the K3, rumor has it that the base standard engine could be a 1.6-liter inline-four engine able to generate 121 horsepower, followed by a GT trim that could generate up to 150 horsepower. So, the Kia K4 would have to be somewhere in the middle, possibly powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine or a 1.6-liter turbo-charged 4-cylinder engine, able to generate between 150 – 220 horsepower. The current 2024 Kia Forte comes standard with a 2.0-liter I4-cylinder engine, able to generate 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, and a GT trim powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter I4 engine, able to generate 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, so the current numbers are definitely in the ballpark.
We expect a little more power if the Forte will be turned into a sports car called the Kia K4. As we said, there is almost no information, with speculation about its new look mirroring the EV6, donning a new Tiger Face grille and long, vertical headlights. We’ll know more as 2024 continues.
