Jeep Plans To Grow Globally

The tech heavy Jeeps of the future are being thought of today. Is Jeep truly planning to take over the world? Well, maybe not. But they do have plans to expand their presence in places where they have a small presence or no presence at all. This is a massive goal and shows the company’s true ambition to increase sales, which are already expected to be at least 2 million Jeep units for 2018. Across all Jeep vehicles, there’s a sense of adventure and now the goal is to share that same feeling overseas as part of a broad worldwide market plan.

Mike Manley, head of both the Jeep and Ram brands for FCA, said Jeep is one of the strongest utility vehicle brands in the world. With plans for FCA to place a greater emphasis on Jeep, especially going forward, from a new mini-Jeep to a full-size, three-row model Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer revival; a lot is going on at Jeep. There’s also plans for a Deserthawk trim and even a Jeep pickup for the first time in decades!

When Can We Expect New Jeep Vehicles?

Manley added that two product launches per year with electrification options available across each nameplate by 2021 is the target. Also included are plans for adding ten plug-in electric and four battery electric vehicles to the fleet by 2022, and a unique monthly fee subscription service for vehicles that would launch in 2019 (details to be released). For now, we know that Jeep is looking into making vehicle models that would serve as rental cars for consumers while away on business trips, like Hertz. There’s still discussion as to how this will play out.

A large reason for the success of Jeep lately is due to a focus on the auto industry shift from sedans to SUVs and the growth of the utility market. Jeep went from 730,000 vehicles sold per year to what’s expected to surpass 1.9 million Jeep vehicles sold in just 2018 alone. Moreover, Jeep wants to expand into markets around the world with the brand looking to go global and goals to see consumers choose Jeep in one of every 12 utility vehicles sold. (Currently this number is one in 17 vehicles sold.)

New Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Originally announced as a project that would be finished in 2017, there’s been a delay for Jeep to produce the latest new Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, the plans to make one is still on the table. A three-row SUV Grand Wagoneer might end up taking place of the all-new Grand Cherokee for the time being. That’s because the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are set to begin production when the 2019 Ram 1500 is finished being produced. (Yes, Ram is apart of FCA and they share the same production plant to produce their vehicles.) The earliest we will see the Wagoneer will be in 2019, but more than likely in 2020; reports say the extensive redesign and production of the Ram 1500 production is currently causing delays.
