Jeep Debuts All-New Grand Wagoneer Concept
Jeep debuted an all-new Grand Wagoneer Concept in Detroit, Michigan, to introduce where the flagship vehicle will take the Jeep brand in the near future. The reveal marks the rebirth of an American classic, nearly 30 years after the last Wagoneer rolled off a Jeep assembly line. The all-new Grand Wagoneer Concept provides enthusiasts and automotive professionals with a hint of how the brand plans to straddle the lines of modern expression while honoring what the original premium SUV stood for. Largely considered a luxurious gamble for Jeep, the Grand Wagoneer Concept is not only stunning and sophisticated, it also signals that Jeep intends to redefine what “American Premium” means, all while delivering a unique and outstanding customer experience.
“Our new Grand Wagoneer Concept marks the first step in the rebirth of Wagoneer — a true and rare premium American icon. With the electrification of each Jeep nameplate coming in the next few years, and the reintroduction of Wagoneer, we are quickly expanding into new segments and more premium space,” said Christian Meunier, global president of the Jeep brand — FCA.
The Grand Wagoneer Concept boasts plenty of leading-edge premium technology, the same way it made strides when it arrived in 1963 as it was then the first four-wheel-drive vehicle mated to an automatic transmission. Arguably once a pioneer of SUVs, the Grand Wagoneer Concept aims to recreate that magic with an electrified powertrain, upscale cabin features, a first-ever passenger touchscreen display, several sophisticated 4×4 off-road systems, and much more. The indication that there’ll be an electrified powertrain straight out of the gate demonstrates Jeep’s commitment to transitioning into a greener off-road brand.
“Wagoneer is unquestionably rooted in the legendary Jeep brand and its unmatched heritage of leading capability, authenticity and freedom, and its return allows us to expand to a much more premium arena with new levels of design detail, and advanced safety and technology features. While Jeep vehicles bring leading capability, efficiency and performance across the mainstream SUV market, Wagoneer will ultimately become a portfolio of vehicles that will once again define ‘American Premium,’ making it the standard of sophistication, authenticity and modern mobility,” added Meunier.
This marks the first time that the Wagoneer nameplate has a spacious third row. Production versions of both the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are expected in showrooms by the end of 2021. As Jeep remains committed to being an American manufacturer, the Wagoneer nameplate will be exclusively built and assembled near downtown Detroit. As an added bonus, the Grand Wagoneer Concept unveiled featured a map showcasing Detroit and the surrounding area on its full-plane glass roof. By the time the production variant of this SUV arrives in 2021, it’ll boast premium driving dynamics, advanced technology, the latest safety features, powerful performance both on and off the road, unmatched towing capability, and much more — all wrapped in a stunning, sophisticated, and innovative design.
