It feels as if it was so many moons ago when Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) introduced the idea of reviving the Jeep Wagoneer. While consumers have waited a long time for the arrival of the Wagoneer, it’s becoming hard to deny that it’s closer than we think. The concept Wagoneer was introduced earlier this year at the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab – a physical concept car meant Jeep was at the very least seriously considering the possible development of this vehicle! As if the Easter Safari was not enough to drum up excitement, a leaked document that possibly indicates a Grand Wagoneer Trackhawk might be in the works will definitely get consumers going. If all goes according to plan, FCA confirmed that the Wagoneer lineup will be making its debut in 2022.

A recently leaked document from German transmission maker ZF mentions a model dubbed the “Grand Wagoneer Trackhawk.” All the details and equipment specs found in this leaked document point to the Grand Wagoneer having an eight-speed transmission – the very same automatic high-torque gearbox that can be found in the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The document also lists a 6.2-liter V8 engine that generates 718 horsepower, nearly identical to the powerful engine of the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer also defy expectations in terms of their underpinnings. Consumers expected that the vehicles’ architecture would mirror that of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, however, it seems that FCA has been retooling the Warren Truck Assembly plant with intentions to manufacture the Wagoneer lineup there. It should be noted that the plant currently serves as the assembly facility of Ram pickup trucks, further indicating that it is likely the Wagoneer trims will have Ram underpinnings.

FCA has plenty of experience with the continuous innovation of their vehicles, the upgraded Dodge Durango being a perfect example. The Dodge Durango SRT, outfitted with a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine, is the most powerful and fastest three-row SUV in America. FCA clearly figured out a winning formula, so it’s not too far fetched to think that Jeep could follow in Dodge’s footsteps.

Consumers have very little to go on, and it doesn’t help that the leaked document is dated from 2017, but hope springs eternal thanks to all of the coincidences. It feels only natural that Jeep continues their winning streak with an introduction of a high-powered trim of their Wagoneer. Of course, this is all speculation at the moment seeing as to how we have no direct confirmation from FCA. As is to be expected a request for comment from FCA went unanswered.
