The 3 Most Unique Jeeps of the 1950s | Jeep Dealership
While your local Jeep dealership of today features a great selection of the latest and greatest Jeep models, it’s nice to take a look back at Jeep’s earlier years when the brand was on the way to cementing itself as the leading for 4×4. Following Jeep’s emergence on the battlefields of World War II, the brand released several new models throughout the 1950’s to meet as many of its drivers’ needs as possible.
Many of these models are no longer around today and are somewhat forgotten. But we’d like to offer a trip down memory lane and take a look at some of the most unique Jeep models to come from this era of manufacturing.
Jeep Surrey Gala
With its signature bright colors and recognizable look, the Surrey Gala was candy-coated two-wheel drive guaranteed to bring the fun. It was the perfect Jeep to drive at a tropical vacation resort as a low-cost rental vehicle for tourists. It came in pink, blue or green and trimmed with matching white stripped fabric.
While the Surrey Gala may seem unusual by today’s standards, it represented Jeep at its best—dependable, affordable, and tons of fun.
Jeep CJ-6
When early CJ models faced criticism for their lack of space and passenger seats, Jeep decided to give it a makeover with the CJ-6 in 1956. The Cj-6 contained greater storage capacity, improved capacity, and better off-road capability.
Despite the changes, the CJ-6 never became hugely popular in the United States. It did sell well internationally, however, and remained in production until the mid 1970’s.
Jeep FC-150 Story
Now here’s a Jeep for the driver who loves truly vintage vehicles! The FC-150 Story was courageous step forward when it came to four-wheel drive technology and cargo space. It was essentially a work truck, but one that was highly maneuverable.
The FC-150 Story’s low bed proved its most recognizable feature, holding the ability to haul a heavy load while traveling anywhere.
