2018 Jeep Wrangler Rumors – What is True and What Isn’t Confirmed (Yet)

There is a lot of speculation about the next generation Jeep Wrangler, which is expected to debut in 2018. If you are wondering what is true and what’s not, you came to the right place. The 2018 Wrangler has been spied a few times and the spy photos give us hope that many of the rumors are true.

Retractable Hardtop

Based on some spy shots, _ The Drive _ believes there is a good possibility that the new Wrangler hard top may be available with a retractable hard top. The reason this rumor has surfaced is because the interior spy shots of the Wrangler show a new button near the roof of the Jeep that looks like it could very well be a button that could control a retractable roof. Jeep has not yet confirmed this rumor, but if they do we are sure many Jeep lovers will be happy because the hardtop on the Wrangler is time consuming to remove.

Aluminum Frame

Yes, the rumor that the Jeep Wrangler will be lighter is true. A majority of the panels on the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be made of aluminum. The lighter weight material will allow for better handling, improved acceleration, and better fuel economy. All good things for the 2018 Wrangler!

Possibility of a Diesel and Hybrid Wrangler

We’ve heard speculation that a hybrid powertrain and a diesel powertrain could be possibilities on the new Wrangler lineup. Hybrid SUVs are becoming more popular and Jeep’s sister company, Chrysler, has an excellent hybrid minivan. The diesel engine would likely be part of the Wrangler Pickup coming soon. Only time will tell!

Differential Lock Button

_ Car and Driver has _ speculated that the 2018 Jeep Wrangler may have a differential lock button located under the roll bars. They came to this conclusion based on spy photos taken of the interior of the vehicle. If this rumor were to be proven correct, the button would likely be similar to the Selec-Terrain system in Trailhawk models that allow the traction to be altered based on terrain. This rumor has not been confirmed, but we hope it will be!
