NASCAR Season is Almost Over – But That Doesn’t Mean Racing is

What’s up Dodge Challenger enthusiasts! Now that the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon orders have been placed and are being produced in factory, let’s talk about the SRT Demon and other high-performance vehicles. Not only that, but let’s talk about racing them, track times, power, and then some. Here at Miami Lakes Automall, we have the two most well-known names in performance cars – Dodge and Chevrolet.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

Two years ago, Dodge came out with the SRT Hellcat for their Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger models. Powered by the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI SRT Hellcat V8 engine, both Hellcat models generate 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. If that wasn’t enough, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is paired to a 6-speed manual TREMEC transmission (TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic HP90 transmission optional) and has a top speed of 199 mph. All that power gives it the ability to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds.

As with many SRT vehicles, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat comes with Performance Pages installed to allow the driver to change engine settings, transmission, driving modes, and more. All of it can be found on an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and drivers have a number of options. Change the engine and transmission into Sport Mode to reduce shift times by nearly half, enable the paddle shifters for manual gear switching, and activate the proper configuration for an enhanced driving experience. There’s also the nifty launch control that, when activated, provides the vehicle with precision grip and improved acceleration to achieve maximum vehicle acceleration as well as traction control during the launch of the vehicle. Drivers can also record track times, engine performance, and other real-time stats.

Dodge Challenger SRT Demon

This year the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon debuted in April 2017 at the New York International Auto Show and blew the crowd away. Under the hood powering this beast is a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Demon V8 engine with over 97 new parts that were specially designed and integrated into the engine’s build for maximum performance. Able to generate 840 horsepower and 770 lb-ft of torque when properly equipped, not only will the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon take off, but it will also momentarily fly as it pops a wheelie at launch. The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is also the world’s fastest factory production car, able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds and reaching a max speed of 140.9 mph.

A bare bones 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has no rear seats, no passenger seat, cloth upholstery, and a 2-speaker sound system. If looking for maximum performance, that’s all the features an enthusiast may want. Then all the owner needs to do is make use of the Demon Crate every Dodge Challenger SRT Demon comes with to modify the vehicle into a true drag race car. The parts include narrow front runner aluminum drag wheels, performance parts, the right tools and jacks, an air filter, a tire pressure gauge, and a powertrain control module along with a switch module to switch over to high-octane gas for the fuel source and remap the engine. That last part is the secret to generating all 840 horsepower. The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon also comes with performance pages and can do everything the system on the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat can do.

2018 Chevrolet Camaro

One of the iconic vehicles under the Chevrolet name is the Chevy Camaro. Built and sculpted for speed, it is commonly put up against vehicles like the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat as competition for best high-performance vehicle. The high-end and most powerful trim of the 2018 Chevy Camaro would have to be the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 DI engine able to generate 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Paired to a 6-speed manual transmission, the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds.

Sadly, Chevrolet doesn’t have anything like the performance pages for the Camaro. Instead, it has a heads up display that provides color digital readouts for vehicle speed, selected gear, and G-Force, amongst basic car information like outside temperature, turn signals, compass, etc.

2018 Chevrolet Corvette

There are three versions of the Chevy Corvette, but here we’ll talk about the 2018 Corvette Stingray. Introduced in the second generation of the Chevrolet Corvette, the Stingray was distinctive from other models. Today, one can get the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 3LT (high-end trim) with a Z51 performance package to give it all the power it can get. Powered by a 6.2-liter V8 DI engine, the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette will generate 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque for any trim in the lineup. With the Z51 performance package, those numbers go up a bit to 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. Paired to an 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission, the 2018 Chevy Corvette with the Z51 package can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds.

For the Chevy Corvette, Chevrolet does have a performance data recording system so that drivers may record video and real-time performance data to play back, share, and analyze their driving experience. There are several modes as well – track mode for recording performance data (speed, rpm, g force, track maps, and lap times), sport mode that provides more simplified data (speed and g force), touring mode to capture video and audio of scenic drives, performance mode to record high-performance data (0 to 60 mph, 1/4-mile speed and elapsed time, and 0-to-100-to-0 runs), and a valet mode to keep an eye on vehicle data when not in the drivers possession.
