Dodge is known for building some of the fastest production cars that are available to customers to own or lease. Some of the vehicles made by Dodge are not quite available to the public, like their funny car drag racers. More recently, Dodge has unleashed their new 2020 Dodge Charger, which will be available to the public, in its funny car form. Known as the Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody Funny Car drag racer, this is no ordinary vehicle. Consider the immensely powered and stunning 11,000 horsepower. That is not a typo either, five figures. Eleven thousand horsepower!

More On the Newest Dodge Funny Car

The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) held their annual Nationals meet in Colorado earlier this month and set a record time on the track. With the help of two-time NHRA Funny Car Champion Matt Hagen behind the wheel, the all-new Dodge funny car earned a 3.79-second race time with a spectacular speed of 338 mph. The short-run netted the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody Funny Car with a mind-blowing average acceleration of just over 4.0 g’s. That’s quite impressive and most of this power is thanks to the aforementioned 11,000 horsepower engine. So, how does this vehicle work under the hood?

About That Powertrain

Inside the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody Funny Car is an 8.1-Liter V8 that pushes 11,000 horsepower and close to 8,000 lb-ft of torque. This engine is capable of revving to 8500 rpm and uses a block and heads machined from solid aluminum billets. The powertrain has no water passages and the usual running time is quite short (less than four seconds) so there is no need for a liquid cooling system. The power to hit those intense speeds are made possible with the help from 90 percent nitromethane and 10 percent alcohol. Within a single run, there are will be 20 gallons of that mix used. Nitro is the perfect “rocket fuel” thanks to a number of key ingredients. That combo is able to burn better than gasoline in a way that generates 2.3 times more power, which allows the Funny Car powertrain to work without any liquid cooling system.

Other Interesting Facts

Oddly enough, the Funny Car does not contain a transmission other than one device that allows the Funny Car to back up after a prelaunch burnout. There is a wing that is attached to the body made of carbon-fiber. This wing is designed to generate maximum downforce with little drag. There are also no instruments inside the funny car except a launch and steer with a tiny throttle pedal and clutch. The driver has a hand brake to use and that’s about all inside the Funny Car. Not quite as luxurious or roomy as the interior of Dodge muscle cars that might not hit 11,000 horsepower, but our readers can get a muscle car with over 700 horsepower in many options including the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and 2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat , among other choices available at Miami Lakes Automall.
