2018 Chrysler Pacifica v. 2018 Honda Pilot
A tough decision for parents looking for a new vehicle that is big enough for their big family is whether to choose an SUV or a minivan. While some minivans don’t compare to the convenience or style of some of the SUVs on the market, the Chrysler Pacifica does, and it actually surpasses some of the best SUVs on the market, even the Honda Pilot, which has earned a number of awards through the years.
Here’s a look at how the Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Pilot compare.
Engines, Fuel Economy and Towing
The engine on the Honda Pilot and the Chrysler Pacifica are pretty similar, but the Chrysler Pacifica’s engine is a little better. The Chrysler Pacifica has a 287-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine, and the Pacifica has a fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway. The Honda Pilot is equipped with a 280-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine and it gives the Honda Pilot an average fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. The biggest difference between the engine of the Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Pilot is their towing capacities. The Chrysler Pacifica has a towing capacity of 3,600 pounds and the Honda Pilot has a standard towing capacity of 1,500 pounds and a max towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.
Interior Dimensions
One of the most important vehicle aspects for big families is a vehicle that has a big, spacious interior and the Honda Pilot and Chrysler Pacifica both have seating for eight passengers, which is one of the highest seating capacities on the market, however, the Chrysler Pacifica provides more room for passengers and significantly more room for cargo than the Honda Pilot.
The Chrysler Pacifica provides 41.1 inches of legroom for front seat passengers, 39 inches of legroom for second-row passengers and 36.5 inches of legroom for third-row passengers, and all of those measurements are bigger than those of the Honda Pilot. The Honda Pilot offers 40.9 inches of legroom for front seat passengers, 38.4 inches of legroom for second-row passengers and 31.9 inches of legroom for third-row passengers. So families (and or anyone else) that will be using all of the vehicle’s seats fairly often will really benefit from the additional 4.6 inches of legroom for third-row passengers and additional 1.6 inches of legroom for second-row passengers.
Consumers looking for a large family vehicle that also provides a lot of cargo room will want to go with the Chrysler Pacifica. The trunk in the Chrysler Pacifica provides 32.3 cubic-feet of space and the trunk in the Honda Pilot is about half the size as it only provides 16.5 cubic-feet of space. The second- and third-row seats of both vehicles can be folded down to make room for large cargo, but the Chrysler Pacifica provides more room for cargo and a much more convenient way to create that room. The Chrysler Pacifica is equipped with Stow ‘n Go seating, which makes it possible for users to fold down the seats in the second- and third-rows into storage compartments built-in to the floor. When the third-row seats in the Chrysler Pacifica are folded down there is 87.5 cubic-feet of storage space and when the third-row seats of the Honda Pilot are folded down there is 46.8 cubic-feet of storage space. Finally, when the second-row seats in the Chrysler Pacifica are folded down there is 140.5 cubic-feet of cargo space and when the second-row seats in the Honda Pilot are folded down there is 83.9 cubic-feet of cargo space.
Entertainment and Tech
The Chrysler Pacifica also provides better standard tech options than the Honda Pilot. The Chrysler Pacifica comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen, whereas the Honda Pilot only comes standard with a 5-inch touchscreen. Additionally, the Chrysler Pacifica is available with the Uconnect Theater Package, which includes to digital touch screens, wireless headphones and Bluetooth capability for games and the capability to watch TV shows and movies.
Price
Finally, the Chrysler Pacifica is an excellent option for families because it has a more affordable base trim. The Pacifica has a starting MSRP of $26,995 (plus destination fee) and the Pilot has a starting MSRP of $30,900 (plus destination fee).
