GM Says Farewell To The Chevy Malibu
General Motors is saying goodbye to the iconic Chevy Malibu. After nearly 60 years, the sedan will be discontinued following the release of the 2025 Malibu. Chevy recently ended production of the Camaro as well as part of its goal to focus on EVs. Like many automakers, Chevy is increasing the production of its electric vehicles. The automaker has debuted its all-electric Silverado EV with plans to release the 2025 Chevy Bolt EV and Equinox. Thanks to the recently revised U.S. EV Tax Credit, consumers who purchase an EV from Chevy qualify for a $7,500 tax credit. Although we have to say farewell to the Chevy Malibu, we’ll take a look at the popular sedan and see how it has fared over the years.Â
Chevy Malibu Will Be Discontinued After 2025
Chevy is saying farewell to its iconic Malibu sedan. First released in 1964, the midsize family car was a popular hit due to its affordability and capability. Now 60 years later, Chevy will discontinue the Malibu and focus on electric vehicles. Although the automaker is shifting its focus, those interested will still have the option to purchase a 2025 Chevy Malibu. It will be the last iteration before it is officially discontinued. About the iconic sedan, General Motors (GM) spokesperson Kevin Kelly said,
“To facilitate the installation of tooling and other plant modifications, after nine generations and over 10 million global sales, GM will end production of the Chevrolet Malibu in November 2024 and pause production of the Cadillac XT4 after January 2025,” said Kevin Kelly.
The Chevy Malibu starts at an MSRP of $25,100 (plus destination fee). In addition to its affordable price, the family sedan offers impressive capability and versatility. The Malibu features a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that delivers 163 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. A continuously variable transmission provides drivers with a pleasant and engaging driving experience.Â
For fuel economy, the Malibu sees 28 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. Inside the sedan, owners will find a spacious and comfortable interior with leather upholstery. An 8-inch display serves as the infotainment screen. It is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For safety, the mid-size sedan offers blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warnings. There are also forward collision alerts, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. With so much to offer, it’s unfortunate that the Malibu will be discontinued. Thankfully, there will be one last iteration of the iconic Chevy Malibu before we have to say farewell.Â
