Compact SUV Comparison: 2018 Chevy Equinox v. The Competition
Chevy redesigned the Equinox for the 2018 model year, and it’s new features and engine options make it one of the top models in the compact SUV class. The all-new Equinox offers features and advantages that other top compact SUV models including the Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape and Honda CR-V.
Engine
When it comes to engine options and engine capabilities, the Chevy Equinox shines. The Chevy Equinox is available with three different engines, including a diesel engine, which isn’t available on the RAV4, Escape or CR-V. The three engine options available on the Chevy Equinox include the turbo 1.5L, turbo 2.0L and 1.6L Turbo Diesel engine. The diesel engine gives the Equinox a highway fuel economy of 39 mpg, which is one of the most fuel efficient compact SUVs on the market, and it’s even more fuel efficient than the RAV4 Hybrid.
Tech
One of the biggest improvements Chevy made when redesigning the Equinox was beefing up technology and its available with several tech features that other compact SUV models don’t offer. New entertainment tech features include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and 4G LTE WiFi, which are features available on every trim. The Equinox is also available the the myChevrolet mobile app, which allows drivers to stay connected to their vehicle even when they are not in it.
On the safety front, the Chevy Equinox has tech features that helps drivers improve their driving and avoid accidents. The Equinox is available with Surround Vision, which provides drivers with a 360-degree view of the car, and that’s not an available feature on the Ford Escape or Honda CR-V. Parents of teen drivers love the standard Teen Driver feature because it provides parents with insights into how their children drive while they are not there, and it allows parents to set limitations on some car features and it provides the teen driver with helpful reminders and alerts.
Safety tech features any driver will are included with the Driver Convenience Package and it includes Rear Park Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change Alert and heated outside mirrors with turn signal indicators. Almost all of those features alert a driver when the vehicle’s sensors detect possible unsafe conditions.
Finally, the Chevy Equinox is a product made by Chevy, and that’s something to be proud of.
