Chevy Shows Off Silverado EV During Super Bowl Ad
For Super Bowl LVI, Chevrolet decided to play on some heartstrings and drum up some nostalgia. For their commercial, the automaker rebooted and updated the introduction for the HBO show, “The Sopranos.” The sixty-second ad was called ‘New Generation’ and it featured mob boss Tony Soprano’s daughter and her brother (played by Jamie Lynn Siegler and Robert Iler respectively) along with the all-new Silverado EV . About the ad, vice president of Chevrolet marketing Steve Majoros said,
“It’s a different way of showcasing ‘The Sopranos’ and showcasing Chevrolet, and it felt like the nice thing to do. When you have a truck this important to our business, there’s really no other logical platform to do this,” said Majoros.
Chevrolet’s commercial aired during the first quarter of the Super Bowl game. It included many of the same shots as the original show’s introduction, but it replaced Tony Soprano with his daughter Meadow. Meadow is seen driving a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV. The original theme song “Woke Up This Morning” can be heard throughout the ad. Meadow’s brother A.J does a voiceover and says, “The first-ever, all-electric Chevy Silverado. A whole new truck for a whole new generation.”
Chevy’s Super Bowl ad was directed by the creator and director of “The Sopranos,” David Chase. The director of photography for the show Phil Abraham also helped. The ad played on the Silverado EV’s capabilities by starting out with a surprise blackout just before the game started. The ad then went on to state that with the pickup’s built-in 4G LTE, fans could still watch the game in the face of an actual power outage. This marked the first time Chevrolet aired an ad during the Super Bowl since 2015. With the new wave of EVs, it’s no wonder Chevy felt the time had come to showcase their most important truck.
