All-New All-Electric Chevy Silverado to Feature Rear-Axle Steering – Miami Lakes Automall Chevrolet
Chevrolet has been making headlines with its plans to compete with automakers like Ford and Tesla. The automaker has released some pretty tough vehicles like the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 , for example. Now, the automaker is aiming its sights on a new electric pickup, the all-new all-electric Chevy Silverado. Chevrolet has said the new electric pickup is set to enter production in early 2023. That doesn’t mean the automaker can’t tease consumers with hints and rumors about its specifications. The latest of these come directly from Chevrolet as it announced that the fully electric Chevy Silverado will feature optional rear-axle steering. Additionally, Chevrolet stated that the new electric pickup will have up to 400 miles of range. We’ll have to wait for more information about the pickup, but from what Chevrolet stated, we can speculate about the electric Silverado and what Chevy plans to do with it.
Rear-Axle Steering for the Chevy Silverado
The all-new all-electric Chevy Silverado will come available with optional rear-axle steering. This inclusion will tighten the pickup’s turning radius by allowing the rear wheels to turn in the opposite direction of the front wheels. This feature is similar to the one seen with the electric GMC Hummer, however, it isn’t likely that the new electric Silverado will have the same functionality. The GMC Hummer EV features a crab walk of sorts where it uses all four wheels to move freely, even diagonally. The electric Chevy Silverado will utilize the rear-axle steering to increase its maneuverability, but consumers shouldn’t expect such function and mobility as shown with the EV Hummer.
The fully electric Chevy Silverado will utilize General Motors’ Ultium battery platform. GM plans to use this platform for its future electric vehicles. For the electric Silverado, multiple powertrain configurations and battery pack sizes will be available. Chevrolet stated that the new electric pickup will have up to 400 miles of range. This battery platform will help ensure that. Chevrolet has also stated that the new pickup will come available in several work-oriented trims. More highly equipped trims will also be available. The last note Chevyrolet shared is that the Chevy Silverado will feature optional 24-inch wheels. Production of the all-new all-electric Chevy Silverado is set for 2023. We will have to wait for more teasers and information, but from what we’ve seen, the electric pickup is looking to cause an upset among the competition.
