Car of the Year

The all-new and reimagined Chevrolet Corvette has been named the 2020 MotorTrend Car of the year, making only the third time in history the long-standing sports car has received the honor, as it was previously awarded in 1984 and 1998.

The award was presented to Tadge Juechter, Corvette executive engineer and Michael Simcoe, General Motors vice president of Global Design, at the event located at MotorTrend’s headquarters in El Segundo, which featured industry leadership and celebrity guests.

“It’s an honor for the Corvette team to receive this coveted award from MotorTrend against the best the industry has to offer,” said Juechter. “Our design and engineering teams spent several years sweating the details to deliver the first mid-engine Corvette. To have a third party validate our hard work makes it all worthwhile.”

The 2020 Chevrolet’s prestigious award is certainly deserved, especially due to its powerful engine. With the Z51 Performance Package, it reaches 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds. Its also powered by the next-generation 6.2L Small Block V-8 LT2 engine, packing 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.

Exterior

The exterior is quite exquisite. The Black or Shadow Gray Metallic color is a recommend for those looking for a “Batmobile” look.

For those who want a style that is a bit bold and prominent will want to take a look at the Torch Red, this color commands attention and forces the creases and detail to come out the most.

For those who really want to stand out, a must-have is the loud and gaudy Accelerate Yellow.

Other colors include: Arctic White, Ceramic Matrix Gray Metallic, Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic, Corvette Racing Yellow Tintcoat and more.

Interior and Features

In addition to the “Bat Mobile” colors on the exterior front, the interior has equally impressive colors, ranging from Jet Black, Sky Cool Gray, Adrenaline Red, Natural Dipped, Two-Tone Blue, and Morello Red.

Each interior is covered in smooth suede with bits of carbon-fiber and aluminum trim in some parts. The interior overall has a clean, crisp, and elegant design. It has a very upscale feel.

Another impressive and unique design feature is the steering wheel. It has a square style rather than the round one that most people are used to, which further emphasizes its sporty feel. It comes in either leather or suede. It also has the new Z button on the left side of the wheel. The Z mode button allows more aggressive performance and allows adjustment on the car’s behavior.

Customization

There are 3 seat options available, ranging from a dashing sporty look to a more comfort-oriented feel. There is also an option to customize the color of the seat belts, such as black, blue, natural, torch red, yellow, and orange.

Technology

Each C8 Corvette will have the standard 10-speaker Bose premium audio system included, and the 14-speaker Bose Performance Series system is also an option.

The latest version of Chevrolet MyLink is also included: This built-in system organizes and integrates the driver’s technology. One can make and receive calls, get text message alerts and enjoy other convenient features without having to use the phone. Apple Carplay and Android Auto are also compatible.

Production Date and Price

Production will begin in February 2020 on the award-winning Corvette. The starting price for the Chevrolet Stingray is $59.995 (plus destination fee).
