The 1955 Chevy Nomad Revisited | Chevy Dealership

Many people remember the original Nomad wagon as one of the most classic American models because it was so sharp looking.

Production of Nomads began in 1955 when Chevys got a whole new look. They received an extreme styling treatment and came packed with the latest in luxury.

They had interior carpet, chrome trim, and full wheel covers. Nomads were considered ultra modern and gave America a whole new understanding of what a wagon could look like.

Chevy also changed what a car could feel like with the introduction of an all-new engine in ’55. The 265-cubic inch V8 furnished 162 horsepower.

With the combo of its chic appearance and pleasing performance, the Nomad became a very popular choice for consumers.

It continued to be a favored model at every Chevy dealership for years, though it took on all different forms. In ’58, its name was given to the 4-door Bel Air station wagon.

It was later adopted by the Impala and then made another jump to the Chevelle Wagon in 1968. Because it shifted so many times, its looks changed pretty drastically over the years.

But most people think back to those original Nomads and Bel Air Nomads as the true look of this quintessential car.

That’s why fans were so excited when a 1955 Chevy Nomad Wagon turned up on the website of Collector’s Weekly recently.

A friend sent the antiques resource a video of his recent purchase, but what they found out about it shocked them.

Despite its smooth turquoise paint job, shiny chrome trim, and clean, ivory hardtop, everything is completely original from 1955.

At first there was disbelief, but upon further inspection, they found it was true. The matching interior is all original too, including the ceiling and the cloth bench seats.

She runs beautifully for a car that’s about to see its 60th birthday! The new owner has lovingly named her Maddie the Nomad.
