Expanding the lineup this year, the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is available as the ES trim, SE, SE TECH, SEL, SEL TOURING, SEL PREMIUM, or the 40th Anniversary Edition. Across the lineup, every trim is powered by a 2.4 liter inline-four-cylinder engine optimized with Mitsubishi Motors MIVEC timing system and a 20 kwH lithium-ion battery powering a twin motor system, with an output of 244 horsepower from the combined engine and kW power in the front and rear, a 144 lb-ft of torque from the gasoline engine, 255 Nm from the front motor and 195 Nm from the rear, or about 188 lb-ft of torque and 143 lb-ft of torque, respectively.
Driving Range and Charging
For 2023, the powertrain has been revised to offer a better fuel economy and more range. The new fuel economy for the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is 64 MPGe, with a combined 26 mpg if only using the gasoline engine, and an all-electric range (AER) of 38 miles – only driving on the electric motor. The total range is 420 miles.
Designed with the standard charging capacities today, this plug-in hybrid SUV can charge up in 16 hours with a Level 120-bolt outlet (standard appliance outlet), in 6.5 hours with a Level 2 240-volt outlet (some charging stations, available for a home install, and in 38 minutes with a CHAdeMO DC fastcharge up to 80-percent (found at some charging stations).

Standard features across the lineup start with automatic headlights, LED highbeam headlights and LED tail lamps, side mirrors with Led turn signal indicators, a hands-free power liftgate, and rear privacy glass. Past the base ES trim, trims come with heated exterior mirrors and can opt-in for a power panoramic sunroof. Silver roof rails are only available on trims past the SE TECH trim. The base trim rides on 18-inch wheels, with 20-inch wheels the standard for the rest of the lineup.
Interior Features
Past the base trim of the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, the interior cabin comes with an 8-way adjustable power driver seat with power lumbar support, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. The SEL trims and up add memory to the driver seat linked with the key fob and an 8-way adjustable power passenger seat with memory, leather upholstery (synthetic past the ES), and triple-zone automatic climate control. Past the SE TECH trim, consumers can opt-in for heated rear seats and a Semi-Anline leather upholstery package. All trims come with a 12.3-inch full digital driver display.

The base trim of the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV comes with an 8-inch smartphone-link display audio (SDA) six-speaker system, but the rest of the lineup comes with a 9-inch SDA with navigation and HD Radio, and can opt-in for a BOSE premium sound system with nine speakers. Bluetooth wireless technology, Google Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and steering wheel audio, phone, and voice recognition control all come standard.
Safety Features and Warranty
Every 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV comes with the basic standard features – anti-locking brakes, active stability control, an advanced dual-stage airbags (including the driver’s knee airbag), three-point seatbelts, a LATCH child seat tether system, a rearview camera (multi-view past the base trim) an anti-theft engine immobilizer, plus built with Mitsubishi’s signature RISE body construction. Standard advanced safety features include forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning plus, and blind spot warning with lane change assist and rear cross traffic alerts, driver attention alert, and rear parking sensors.
