No vehicle for sale in the United States sells in larger numbers than the full-size pickup truck, with the Ford F-150 in the top spot for nearly half a century. The F-150 might be the top seller, but the Ram 1500 is widely regarded as the most car-like to drive, thanks to the ride comfort offered by its coil-spring rear suspension and its elevated cabin. In this corner of the market, it is all about power, payload, torque, towing capacity, and a choice of cab configurations. For now, the 2024 Ram 1500 soldiers on with the 305-horsepower Pentastar V-6 engine and the 395-horsepower Hemi V-8.
2024 Updates
Very few things change for 2024 as Ram gears up for a special 2025 model year when the Ramcharger and the new high-performance RHO will be launched, along with a makeover and upgrade for the entire lineup. As for the regular 1500, the Tradesman Warlock option returns in 2024 with several off-road features, including a one-inch higher ground clearance, an electronically locking rear differential, skid plates, 33-inch tires, and Bilstein dampers. The only other modification is that all trims in the lineup get a standard tailgate ajar warning light.
Which 1500 pickup customers purchase depends on individual necessities, and for no-nonsense fleet use with no need for luxuries, the Tradesman will evidently be ideal, while the Rebel is the one to go for if enthusiasts need off-road ability. For everyday family use, the Laramie is the first livable trim with the upscale elements that families demand, with its climate-controlled front seats, leather upholstery, a proper smartphone-enabled infotainment system, and forward-collision warning. Of note, all the driver-assistance features are available with the top-of-the-line Limited with a price tag of $67,805 MSRP (including $1,995 destination fee).
Interior Accouterments
The cabin is stylish and simple to use, and it has not begun to age compared to the competition. In other words, it offers a sense of elegance uncommon in a pickup truck. The 2024 Ram 1500 has the most refined interior of all the trucks; it is ergonomically sound. The controls fall logically to hand, except perhaps the dashboard-mounted rotary shifter, but drivers soon grow accustomed to it. Notably, it also frees up useful space in the center console. Even the entry-level Tradesman is aesthetically pleasing inside for a workhorse, with solid materials and decent quality levels.
That said, consumers receive manual air conditioning and rubberized vinyl flooring, but they can swap out the vinyl on the seats for cloth at no cost. Higher trims are much more generously appointed with wood finishes, leather, and various other features. Interior space leads the class, especially the second row of the expansive crew cab, partly thanks to the lengthy wheelbase. Seating capacity is six in the Tradesman, Big Horn, and Laramie, courtesy of the three-seater front bench. Sources indicate that most “trim levels also offer an option between two bed lengths (5 feet, 7 inches or 6 feet, 4 inches), although the Tradesman HFE only comes with the longer bed and the off-road oriented Rebel and TRX are only available with the shorter one.”
The 2024 Ram 1500 rides better than any pickup has a right to, and its comfortable cabin and grand road manners remain at the top of the pile, particularly in the upper-level trims.
