Ram Trucks introduced the first pictures of the 1500 REV electric pickup truck in February of the 2023 model year during Super Bowl LVII, but left a lot of details to the imagination. The promotional video “Premature Electrification” aired in February, leaving everyone slightly puzzled. Stellantis seized the New York International Auto Show opportunity to explain its position by unveiling all the details of the upcoming electric pickup truck.

Range Galore

Indeed, range anxiety will not stop anyone from purchasing Ram Truck’s first all-electric trim. Stellantis always declared that the Ram 1500 REV would provide a class-leading range, while the name indicated it might employ a range extender. In New York, Ram Trucks cleared up all misgivings by announcing that the extended-range variant of the truck would have up to 500 miles of range, which is a record in its segment. This performance is accomplished courtesy of a 229-kWh battery, although an extended-range iteration relying on an internal combustion engine is also being produced. Moreover, with the standard 168-kWh battery pack, the Ram 1500 REV can travel up to 350 miles on a charge, which is still powerful.

How the Ram 1500 REV Stands Against the Competition

The Ram 1500 REV is constructed on the new STLA Frame platform suitable for full-size body-on-frame electric trucks. Stellantis announced the pickup will provide the industry’s most commendable combination of towing, charge time, range, and payload.

The 350-mile range alone would make the 1500 REV the longest-range electric truck – easily beating the Ford F-150 Lightning with Extended Range battery’s 320 miles and the Rivian R1T’s 314 miles. Tesla originally claimed the Cybertruck would boast a range of 500 miles, but it remains unclear if that is still the target or when the electric vehicle will go into mass production. In addition, the Ram 1500 REV has 14,000 pounds of towing capacity, well above the Ford F-150 Lightning pickup’s 10,000 pounds and the Rivian R1T’s 11,000 pounds.

The Structure of Ram’s Electric Vehicle

The truck contains two electric motors, front and rear, with 250 kW of power each, for a total of 654 horsepower. As a matter of fact, the one on the front axle can be disconnected, permitting the front wheels to spin freely in certain conditions. The rear-axle drive unit features an electronic-locking rear differential. The Ram 1500 REV has an 800-volt electrical system. This attribute allows the truck to add 110 miles of range in 10 minutes of charging at a 350 kW DC fast charger.

Powering Up

Ram Truck’s electric pickup highlights vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-home, and vehicle-to-grid bidirectional charging. It can also power external devices, with a 7.2-kW onboard power panel in the bed and a 3.6-kW power panel in the front trunk (frunk). The Ram 1500 REV features a RamBox lockable bed storage with a 115-volt outlet. The RamBox is weatherproof, illuminated, and integrates drain plugs on the bottom of the storage bins. Furthermore, the electric vehicle comes outfitted with a frunk that has 15 cubic feet of storage.

The Amenities

The REV lineup comprises five trim levels, with Tungsten at the top earning the title of the most technologically-advanced Ram 1500 ever manufactured. According to Stellantis, deliveries are scheduled to begin during the fourth quarter of 2024.
