On January 16, 2024, Ram unveiled its latest offering in the electric vehicle market with the introduction of the Ram ProMaster Electric Van (EV). This marks the brand’s first fully electrified vehicle and a significant move toward providing sustainable and innovative mobility solutions. The ProMaster Electric Van is part of Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, which involves a substantial investment in electrification and software development to meet the growing demand for battery-electric vehicles.

Tim Kuniskis, Ram brand CEO, emphasizes the need to blend convenience and capability: “The introduction of the Ram ProMaster EV represents another major milestone on our electrification journey as we continue to evolve without sacrificing capability.” He adds, “Ram’s first available electric vehicle is a game-changer, offering commercial customers, large and small, the ultimate van in zero-emissions performance, commercial capability and advanced technology.”

Primary Attributes of the Ram ProMaster Electric Van

The key features of the Ram ProMaster Electric Van include a targeted range of up to 162 miles in city driving, making it suitable for several commercial applications. The electric vehicle will be available in two mission-specific configurations, catering to delivery and cargo models. The cargo model provides flexibility with two configurations, including a 12-foot cargo length and an extended 13-foot cargo length.

The ProMaster Electric Van is powered by a 110-kilowatt-hour battery pack, accelerating up to 268 horsepower and generating 302 pound-feet of torque. The electric drive module (EDM) ensures front-wheel-drive capability, enhancing performance and commercial capability. The battery is strategically positioned under the floor, maintaining cargo volume and allowing for efficient packaging.

One notable aspect is the ProMaster van’s fast-charging options, with Level 3 DC charging capabilities ranging from 50 to 150 kilowatts. Additionally, a Level 2 wall box charger with up to 11 kilowatts is available. The vehicle’s charging port features audible alerts and illuminations to confirm the connection during charging.

Meeting Consumer Demands

The ProMaster electric vehicle is designed to meet the specific needs of commercial customers, particularly in the delivery space. To that end, the delivery model incorporates features such as anodized aluminum construction for weight optimization, a rear roll-up door, and advanced fleet management technologies like Ram Telematics. To clarify, the Telematics system offers insights into vehicle location, real-time diagnostics, and driving behavior.

The automaker underscores the ProMaster electric van’s adaptability and customization options, making it a fitting choice for numerous vocational and delivery applications. The van provides best-in-class cargo space, low load-floor height, interior cargo height, and cargo width between wheel wells. The vehicle’s design allows for simple upfitting, with standard upfitter electrical connectors and an integrated cab configuration.

In terms of safety and security, the ProMaster electric van boasts an extensive list of features, including Crosswind Assist, Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning, a rear backup camera, and more. Optional features include Lane Keep Assist, Intelligent Speed Assist, Active Drive Assist for Level 2 automated driving capability, and Adaptive Cruise Control. The ProMaster EV also stands out for its advanced technology features.

For example, the Uconnect 5 system broadcasts information via a 10.1-inch touchscreen display. The system offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, simultaneous wireless connectivity for two Bluetooth-enabled devices, and Alexa In-Vehicle Assistant. The EV also integrates a Charging Station Locator and EV Dynamic Trip Prediction to enhance the overall user experience.
