  • The new Ram ProMaster City could borrow elements from the E-Scudo marketed in Europe.
  • Ram aims for domination against Ford in the commercial vehicle segment.
  • There is a slim chance the all-new electric van could be influenced by the Fiat Doblo.

What Will Be the Ram ProMaster City’s Replacement?

Ram is bracing itself to make a successful return to the small commercial van sector in the United States, a market it withdrew from with the discontinuation of the Ram ProMaster City. Sources indicate that the automaker’s latest vehicle will likely be a reimagined variant of the Fiat E-Scudo. It is expected to launch as the reinvented Ram ProMaster City in the 2026 model year, with production prepared to start in late 2025.

Ram and Chrysler CEO Chris Feuell implied this would be the newfound course for the manufacturer. Feuell suggested that the commercial vehicle market boasts substantial opportunities for development, particularly when faced with a gap in immediate competition such as the Ford Transit Connect.

“Our main competitor is Ford, and their whole Ford Pro organization and product and service lineup. They’ve made very impressive inroads in growing the business…we definitely have our eyes set on beating Ford at some point in the near term.”

Indeed, Ram’s reestablished concentration on the commercial sector incorporates high-reaching goals. To that end, Feuell stated, “I can confirm that we have the products and services to establish a leadership position in the commercial vehicles segments and drive double-digit growth.” To support her confidence in the manufacturer, Feuell also noted that 80 percent of Stellantis’ commercial sales in North America are Ram automobiles, underscoring the brand’s formidable status in this market.

It is worth noting that Ram’s choice to revisit the commercial sector is a calculated maneuver motivated by Ford’s triumph with its commercial division, Ford Pro. That said, in the first quarter of 2024 alone, Ford Pro garnered $3 billion, emphasizing the potential to prosper in the commercial vehicle market. Feuell’s remarks express Ram’s resolve to acquire the profitable opportunities yielded by this automotive class.

Answering The Call for Smaller Cargo Vans

As Ram readies itself for the premiere of this new electric van, its representatives are keenly aware of urban operators and small businesses that would benefit greatly from the practicality of a quick and more compact vehicle. In recognition of the demand for such a vehicle, Bob Broderdorf, Ram Global Operations Officer, declared, “Demand is clearly there for a ‘smaller, more nimble product’ that can still ‘get the job done’ in urban areas.”

Even though official information regarding the new Ram ProMaster City remains limited at this time, the possible rebranding of the Fiat E-Scudo showcases Ram’s dedication to advancements and ingenuity in the commercial vehicle segment. The continuing head-to-head clash between Ram and Ford could result in some intriguing outcomes, especially amid the rapidly changing automotive landscape.
