Does the Ram 1500 Classic Face Discontinuation in the United States?
The Ram 1500 and the Ram 1500 Classic are two variants of Ram’s popular half-ton pickup truck. That said, after a remarkable journey that began in 2009, the Ram 1500 Classic will soon face discontinuation. According to Automotive News, the end of production for the introductory-level truck will occur in September 2024 because there is a more contemporary model prepared to take its place in the 2025 Ram lineup.
“The Ram 1500 Classic has been a great entry point pickup for Ram, and the Tradesman model has certainly represented the needs of our commercial truck customers. With the introduction of the Tradesman trim on the new Ram 1500 for the 2024 model year, we bid farewell to the previous generation and remind customers that the HEMI-powered Ram 1500 Classic will sell into 2025.”

The 1500 Classic exhibited a massive improvement compared to the third-generation model that preceded it, raising Ram’s position in the ongoing pickup truck battle. As mentioned, production is set to end in September of this year (2024). However, the manufacturer expects the 1500 Classic to sell well into the 2025 model year.
Indeed, regardless of its age, the captivating, no-frills truck has represented an inexpensive first step to workhorse ownership. It has harmoniously endured alongside the latest generation, but with the exit of the renowned 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 power plant, there are no eight-cylinder engines to propel the iconic pickup in the 2025 lineup.
Cost Modifications
Readers must keep in mind that the 2024 Ram 1500 remains listed on the Ram Trucks website, boasting a starting price tag of $38,705 MSRP for the Tradesman trim and $43,635 MSRP for the Warlock (excluding the $1,995 destination fee). Even though the offerings come standard with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine, the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 is just a $3,045 surcharge; that is to say, it is one of the final ways to equip the full-size Mopar pickup with a V-8.
In turn, for 2025, the new Tradesman has a sticker price of $40,275 MSRP (excluding the destination charge), while the Warlock sees a list price of $54,505 MSRP (excluding the destination fee). It is worth noting, though, that there might be region-specific offers that could be implemented by our dealership.
The Specs of the Ram 1500 Classic
For context, the old 1500 Classic pickup truck’s 5.7-liter V-8 powertrain accelerates up to 395 horsepower and generates 410 pound-feet of torque, facilitating a 1,810-pound payload capacity. For the 2025 model-year pickup, on the other hand, customers have two available options.
There is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6, producing 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque with a 1,930-pound payload, or the all-new Hurricane Standard Output inline-six. The Hurricane delivers 420 horsepower, 469 pound-feet of torque, and a maximum carrying capacity of up to 1,910 pounds. Specifically, the figures for the turbocharged engine are exceptional, and buyers should consider that when purchasing in such a highly competitive segment.
