More Information on the New Kia K3 Revealed
The Kia Corp may be fast on its heels to go all-electric with many new battery-electric vehicle (BEV) concepts, but it’s still showing some love for its gasoline lineup. Some concepts we’ve seen we’re absolutely gaga over, such as the new Kia EV8 that could bring back the Stinger sports car as an all-electric vehicle, but there’s another car in the lineup that died out in 2023 – the Kia Rio. No longer showing its face in the lineup, the Rio may be the next vehicle to go the route of the Kia Optima. In 2020, Kia ditched the Optima name for the South Korean nameplate, K5, and upgraded it to be more akin to a sports car, and now for 2025, the Rio may do the same with the all-new K3.
Nothing is certain – the Kia manufacturer site has almost no details about this vehicle, set for release in the next model year, but something is better than nothing. Judging by the image above, the Kia K3 is looking pretty sharp. That swept-back roof is very reminiscent of the sports car design Kia has been using since the Stinger was first released, brought back again and again for many models in the lineup. Back in 2023, the K3 was first revealed for a South American drop in Mexico, and we weren’t exactly sure if it would come to the States. It’s currently up on the National Marketing Company (NMC) website, and that’s it.
So, why the buzz? Because why not? The last time the Kia Corp released a new model in another country that had promise for the U.S., it was the Kia Seltos. We all saw how quickly that model came to the States, so the same could be true for the K3. The new K3 also shows some features that have become popular in new gasoline entries and BEVs. For instance, the front fascia is dazzling with new LED headlights that display the Star-map lighting popping up on vehicles like the Kia EV6 and Kia EV9. These new headlights are also a little jagged, dripping down to the grille to connect with a set of daytime running lights (DRLs) and turn signals. Of course, the rear fascia matches with LED tail lights that curve inward around the trunk.
Inside is its own bag of tricks. Previews like the one above show us a steering wheel that looks a lot like the EV6, with similar patterns in the door panels and a bunch of little holes on the dashboard to make up the new sound system. Seem familiar? Looks a lot like the 24-inch digital screen that’s starting to creep up in new Kia models, doesn’t it? According to the NMC, we’re looking at a 4.2-inch instrument cluster display and a 10.24-inch touchscreen, but we wouldn’t write out an available 12.2-inch instrument cluster and 12.2-inch touchscreen for top-tier trims.
As for the powertrain, Kia has hinted at a 1.6-liter inline-four engine able to generate 121 horsepower, the same standard for the Kia Rio in the U.S. There’s also talk of a GT-Line model – also popping up in new vehicles – that could generate up to 150 horsepower or more. We’ll just have to wait and see when the new Kia K3 drops next year (2025).
