Shortly after Kia revealed the EV6 all-electric hatchback, the automaker was quick to introduce an all-electric SUV, the Kia EV9. More or less an all-electric Kia Telluride, the boxy EV9 battery-electric vehicle (BEV) has taken over as the flagship for the Kia BEV lineup. The original BEV with no electric predecessor is the EV6, and to remind us which one of these came first, the EV6 is getting a mid-cycle refresh for the 2025 model year. We got some details about it in May 2024, and Kia just released a PR with all the info about the newly updated EV6.

Engineering

Built on the brand’s industry-changing E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform), the 2025 EV6 is getting a small power boost with a new 84.0kWh fourth-generation battery (8.5 percent larger than its current battery). The 2024 model had a variety of all-electric range (AER) estimates for each trim, but none were as large as the new AER of 360 miles with the new battery. We assume this new battery will be the lineup standard, replacing the older battery for each trim, but this has not been confirmed. Equipped with 800V technology, the new 84.0kWh battery can be recharged from 10-80 percent in 18 minutes, cutting down the charge up time by 60 percent.

Exterior Style

New sleek daytime running lights (DRLs) have been added to the front fascia, featuring Kia’s innovative Star Map signature lighting, a new staple in new BEVs. The wing-shaped bumper design adds a dynamic element to the vehicle with a smooth profile before repeating in the rear. Also expected to show up is the new “Tiger Face” in place of the front grille. Around back, the rear comes with combination lamps are also enhanced with Star Map lighting technology. The GT-Line gets a little extra with dynamic front and rear bumpers, additional LED center lighting bar and exclusive, optional 20-inch wheels, and a new mock diffuser. Many color options are available, including the new Wolf Grey finish and other options such as White Pearl, Interstellar Gray, Midnight Black, Glacier White, and Runway Red.

Interior Changes

The interior cabin still comes with the panoramic curved display of 24 inches, but now has a more sporty look and feel with a newly refined steering wheel and an updated crash pad. Futuristic, a fingerprint recognition system is integrated into the center console for more security and allowing consumers to start the car without a smart key or digital key, load their profile, and authenticate services like the Kia Connect Store. No need to worry about young drivers buying a bunch of apps with the owner’s payment method. The updated EV6 also comes with a new wireless charging pad is now able to charge at 15W. Again, the GT-Line comes with a black and off-white color scheme and a three-spoke steering wheel for a more unique feel.

Tech

The Kia EV6 introduces the brand’s Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) architecture Kia Connect. Upgraded to feature Kia’s next-generation infotainment system and connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), OTA software updates ensure that the vehicle’s system remains up to date to offer the consumer the latest features. Some of these include Hands-on Detection (HoD) steering wheel, Lane Following Assist 2.0 (LFA 2.0), Remote Smart Parking Assist 2.0 (RSPA 2.0) and front, side, and rear Parking Collision-avoidance Assist (PCA-F/S/R), as well as some Kia Connect Store apps. Lastly, an electrically adjustable (rake and reach) steering wheel, and 12-inch Head-Up Display (HUD) have been added.
