Kia Discontinues Rio5 for 2024

It seems the Kia Corp isn’t just saying goodbye to one model for 2024. Following the demise of the Kia Stinger sports car, the model to start the Kia GT-Line, but the automaker is also ending the run of compact car Kia Rio 5-door. According to The Car Guide, inside sources say that the five-door hatchback will not be returning for the 2024 model year. The same may even be true for the Kia Rio, but there is still no confirmation as of yet. Be sure to check out the 2023 Kia Rio5 while it lasts.

Performance

Both, the Kia Rio and Rio5 are powered by a 1.6-liter I4 Cylinder engine optimized with multi-point injection. Able to generate 120 horsepower and 112 lb-ft of torque, the engine is paired with an intelligent variable transmission (IVT). The fuel economy is also the same, delivering 32 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway. The 2023 Kia Rio comes with two trims, the LX and S. The Rio5 has only one trim, the Rio S.

Styling Features

Most standard features are shared on both models, such as heated exterior mirrors, solar control glass, and automatic headlamps (LED available on Rio, standard on Rio5). High beam assist is standard on the S trim, available for the Rio LX trim. The Rio5 also comes with a heated rear mirror and rear wiper. 15-inch alloy wheels are the standard for both.

Inside is a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat trimmed in a tricot and woven cloth, also featuring a 60/40 split folding rear seat trimmed in the same. Automatic climate control is standard in the Rio S trim, available on the Rio5 S trim. A 4.2-inch instrument display is standard for both Rio models.

Technology

Sharing many of the same features as the 2023 Kia Rio, the 2023 Kia Rio5 comes with an 8-inch touchscreen display. Standard features include a wireless Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto capability, a six-speaker sound system with front tweeter speakers, a rear-view monitor with dynamic parking guidance, Bluetooth wireless technology, Siri Eyes Free, and steering wheel-mounted audio buttons. Kia Connect is not a standard feature on either, available on the S trim. This adds SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

Safety

Kia always has the same standard safety features to offer protection on all of its vehicles for drivers and passengers. These include dual front advanced airbags, dual front seat-mounted side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, a rollover sensor, an anti-lock brake system, stability and traction control systems, a rear occupant alert system, rear-camera display, and LATCH child-seat ready anchors. Available to add on both models is forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, lane following assist, a driver attention warning system, and a rear occupant alert system are all available to add on.

Whether discontinued or not, Kia offers a great warranty plan on all new cars. The Kia Rio and Rio 5 comes with a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty program. The Kia 10-year/100,000 mile warranty program consists of a 10-year/100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty (this includes the battery of the EV6), 5-year/60,000 mile limited basic warranty, 5-year/100,000 mile limited anti-perforation warranty, and 5-year/60,000 mile roadside assistance plan.
