Kia Corp is widely known as an automaker that has a vehicle for every type of consumer. The lineup includes many kinds of SUVs, crossovers, minivans, some sedans, plug-in hybrids, and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). The one thing that seems to be missing is a pickup truck. That slot is just about to be filled with a new pickup truck, the Kia Tasman.

“The Kia Tasman represents our unwavering dedication to innovation. Every aspect of our R&D Division’s capability has been channeled into creating a vehicle that not only lives up to its title as the first of its kind, but also delivers performance that surpasses expectations,” – Heui Won Yang, President of the Kia R&D Division.

Initially revealed in April 2024, the Kia Tasman was revealed with little information. The pickup truck came with a crew cab, but we didn’t know the size of the truck bed. Covered in a wildly colorful camouflage wrap, the Kia Tasman did have some outstanding features. These included a four-door crew cab with an upright, squared-off front end with a new front fascia, a new grille, black wheel flares, and vertical headlights. They’re all styling cues from new models being introduced to the lineup, including the automaker’s signature Tiger Nose. Other than this, no real specs were revealed.

At first, the Tasman was thought to be another overseas-only vehicle for Kia. Still, the automaker has officially announced that the Kia Tasman will be making its world premiere in the second half of 2024, and will be first introduced in the Korean market before expanding to Australia and the Africa/Middle East market. Following these markets, the Tasman will have a global release in the first half of 2025. Global usually means America, too. After all, the Kia Tasman was spied testing in America in April 2024 as well.

To kick off the new pickup truck, the automaker has released a little teaser for its upcoming documentary series, “One More Round”, which showcases the Tasman and gives us more details about the pickup truck. With a focus placed on the development process of the Tasman, including extensive testing and a better look at what the pickup truck has to offer, the Tasman was put through the wringer in various locations, including the Australian wilderness to ensure the most optimum durability and performance for the first pickup truck by Kia. More than 1,777 specific tests were conducted and over 18,000 rounds of testing to evaluate the pickup truck’s comprehensive capabilities and rugged reliability.

The teaser for “One More Round” shows the Kia Tasman still wrapped up in camouflage, but flaunts the performance of the pickup truck across water, sandy dunes, and mountains/hills. We also get a look at it hauling a huge trailer, flaunting the towing capacity of the pickup truck, plus a sharp turn (played in reverse) to show that this isn’t just a work truck. The first episode of this documentary is set for release on July 22, 2024, and will highlight the off-road testing capability of the Tasman pickup truck. We’ll see everything else in the teaser, including deep-water wading, all-terrain durability and towing trials, on-track performance, ride and handling, and more between July and October, 2024.
