2016 Sorento SXL

The Kia Sorento could certainly be considered rugged, especially based off the vehicle’s sculpted look. However, the SUV certainly isn’t capable of off-roading… unless, of course, you customize your ride.

_That’s what some clever car lovers did to their Kia Sorento, transforming the family crossover into an intimidating behemoth. The Kia Sorento was already an excellent choice, especially among those who desire minivan capabilities without the minivan look. Well, wait until you get a look at this revamped take on the vehicle, a version of the Kia Sorento that you certainly won’t see anywhere in Miami . However, after seeing the results of the project, you may be inspired to reconstruct your own Kia vehicle… _

The updated version of the popular Kia model is called the PacWest Adventure Sorento, and, as Dan Mihalascu of CarScoops.com passes along, it’s been described as a “tough, off-road utility vehicle equipped with custom suspension, snorkel intake system and a paint scheme inspired by the lush forests of the region.”

There hasn’t been much more information regarding the customized Sorento, although Mihalascu did acquire several photos of the vehicle. Among the changes, the writer focused in on several modifications: the large off-roading tires (which would presumably be used for, you know, off-roading), a high ground clearance (which will also assist the driver while traveling off the beaten path), a “menacing” bull bar with accompanying LED lights (essentially just for aesthetics), and roof bars with an attached LED bar (which will help illuminate any dark, off-roading area).

Furthermore, the writer noticed a protection shield beneath the engine (to presumably keep the mechanics safe when traveling down a bumpy road), a “massive” snorkel intake system, and a “more aggressive-looking” grille on the front. Finally, Mihalascu suspects that the Sorento includes a revamped powertrain, although there’s no way to be certain.

No need to worry, however, as we’ll get all the details on the PacWest Adventure Sorento when it make its debut at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas next week. There’s so much hype surrounding the vehicle, the brand teased the customized SUV with a pair of mid-October press releases.

“As Kia heads to SEMA 2015 to celebrate the American Road, here’s a taste of the PacWest Adventure Sorento, a tough, off-road utility vehicle equipped with custom suspension, snorkel intake system and a paint scheme inspired by the lush forests of the region,” the first release said.

“Kia is headed to this year’s SEMA show to celebrate America’s love for the open road and the diverse car cultures spanning the many regions of this country,” the next release read. “Enjoy this high-speed coast-to-coast tour to whet your appetite for what we will unveil November 3rd in Las Vegas.”

There’s no denying that a customization project of this magnitude would certainly cost a pretty penny. However, these projects often take years to complete, so it’s certainly a worthwhile hobby. Perhaps you’ve even been inspired to modify your own Kia Sorento, and maybe it will be your vehicle that Kia is teasing via press releases.
