Why the “Smaller” Jeep Renegade is a “Big” Deal

Some consumers may underestimate the capabilities of the Jeep Renegade considering the vehicle’s size. Built on the same platform as the Fiat 500L compact (the two vehicles are actually built alongside each other), the vehicle has always been known for being a bit smaller than the brand’s other vehicles. As Will Sabel Courtney of the New York Daily News writes, the engineers compacted their vehicle even more for the 2016 model year, reducing the size of the “round headlights, seven-bar grille, squared-off edges.” The vehicle’s exterior measurements trail many of the other Jeeps, as the Renegade offers a 74.2-inch width, 66.5-inch height, 166.6-inch length and a 101.2-inch wheelbase.

_Despite the smaller size, the Renegade is still regarded as an excellent vehicle. In fact, it offers some unexpected capabilities that you’d often expect from a much bigger compact SUV. You’ll be quite impressed when you learn everything the Renegade has to offer, and we wouldn’t be shocked if you decide to pursue the Jeep in Miami … _

Cargo Space

You’d be pleasantly surprised at the amount of interior room is available in the 2016 Renegade. Front passengers can expect unrivaled measurements, including 41.1-inches of head room, 53.1-inches of hip room, 41.2-inches of legroom, and 55.9-inches of shoulder room. Head to the back and you’ll still have plenty of room to spread out, as the Renegade offers 40.5-inches of head room, 51.9-inches of hip room, 35.1-inches of legroom, and 55.1-inches of shoulder room.

The vehicle still offers generous amounts of cargo room, including a Best-in-Class interior volume. Plus, you can customize your “storage area” in a variety of different configurations, and that’s in addition to the fold-flat front passenger seat. Ordinarily, you wouldn’t expect a smaller Jeep to offer this amount of room, but the Renegade goes above and beyond with its interior measurements and cargo space.

Engines

Both of the Renegade’s two engines are impressive in their own specific ways. The 2.4-liter Tigershark I4 engine offers 180 horsepower and 175 pounds-feet of torque, impressive specs considering how efficient the unit is. The system can deliver an incredible 31 highway mile per gallon fuel efficiency due to the inclusion of an “efficient valve-lift system.”

Meanwhile, the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo I4 engine can pump out 160 horsepower and 184 pounds-feet of torque. The small unit can deliver such impressive power due to the “electrohydraulic valves,” which help monitor the air and combustion.

Drivability

Not many vehicles are worthy of Jeep’s Trail Rated badge, an honor that indicates that the vehicle is capable of performing adequately under any conditions. The Renegade was the recipient of the accolade due to the best-in-class 4×4 capabilities. The two systems both feature a rear axle disconnect system, which helps the vehicle easily switch from two- to four-wheel drive. When the feature isn’t needed, the system will automatically reduce the loss of energy while also improving the efficiency.

As you can see, the “smaller” Jeep Renegade actually acts like a much-bigger vehicle. If you were apprehensive about pursuing the compact due to the exterior measurements, take assurance in the fact that the SUV will be just as competent as the brand’s other models..
