The Return of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer| Jeep in Miami
Word on the street is that your local Jeep in Miami is preparing for the return of one of their most classic models, the Grand Wagoneer.
You remember the Wagoneer…wood paneling and snazzy metallic trim. It was technically one of the first SUVs that ever existed.
Restoring the model’s place in Jeep’s lineup is a project that’s near and dear to the company’s CEO, Michael Manley. He thinks that it would “very, very effectively compete with premium SUVs.”
The Backstory
The Jeep Wagoneer first hit the scene in 1963, offering a package that consumers had never seen before: a luxury utility vehicle.
Used to choosing between the amenities of smaller cars or the sparse surroundings of trucks, buyers were pleasantly surprised by Jeep’s decidedly different entry.
The Wagoneer was produced for more than 28 years in a variety of trim levels, including the Grand Wagoneer which became the sole version available as of 1984.
Sales remained high until the end of its run, one of the longest in automotive history. Several unique finishes were offered during the Wagoneer’s final years of sales, making those models especially coveted by fans.
The Comeback
High-end SUVs are certainly a hot market in the U.S. right now. Jeep’s Grand Cherokee is already a popular choice among consumers. Owners enjoy its unique blend of intense capabilities, functionality, and luxury.
The new Grand Wagoneer would likely be even larger than the Grand Cherokee, offering third-row seating, which is in high demand these days.
Manley wants the new version to “fill out the brand at the top end.” And it’s sure to incorporate prime materials and cutting-edge features to launch it directly into competition with Range Rover.
While it was initially predicted that the renewed Grand Wagoneer would make its debut in 2018, more recent talks with Jeep representatives have indicated that it could arrive sooner .
Some sources are even saying that buyers might be able to get behind the wheel as soon as late 2016 or early 2017.
Just don’t get too excited over the return of wood-grain because it’s hard to imagine that Jeep’s new flagship will go that retro.
