Jeep Gladiator Earns 2020 North American Truck of the Year Honors

January 16th, 2020 by

This latest accolade is one for the record books, the all-new Jeep Gladiator earned top honors as the 2020 North American Truck of the Year. No small feat for the midsize pickup considering it won the award its debut year after the Jeep brand experienced a 27-year absence in the segment. The award is often thought to be one of the most prestigious in the automotive world thanks to its diverse panel of 50 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada that form the voting body. As the self-appointed most capable midsize truck ever, the Jeep Gladiator is truly one-of-a-kind in a segment filled with clones.

“The Jeep Gladiator is not only the world’s most capable midsize pickup, it’s now the North American Truck of the Year as well,” said Jim Morrison, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA North America. “This honor is a testament to our customers who demand the very best and the Gladiator delivers with all of the 4×4 capability and versatility expected of a Jeep vehicle.”

Instead of the awards given by a single publication, website, radio or television station, the North American Truck of the Year award is unique because it’s independent and relies on a jury of automotive journalists that represent varied media outlets. The voting body is responsible for evaluating the finalists based on segment leadership, innovation, safety, design, handling, driver satisfaction and overall value. The process, which includes three different rounds of voting, began in June 2019 by narrowing down a list of eligible vehicles. 2020 marks the 26th year of the awards as the Gladiator earned the North American Truck of the Year designation straight out of the gate.

About the 2020 Gladiator

Engineered and designed by Jeep as the most capable off-road midsize truck ever, the 2020 Gladiator exceeds the demands of any buyer’s active lifestyle as it builds on the Jeep’s rich and rugged heritage. The brand is notorious for its tough and dependable vehicles with unmatched rugged utility, iconic design, clever functionality, open-air freedom and versatility. Let’s call it a Jeep specialty. The Gladiator also features best-in-class towing and 4×4 payload figures as well.

The Gladiator is powered by a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that’s standard under the hood, with an EcoDiesel variant slated to be available by the end of 2020. The Gladiator is built tough as a vehicle that boasts the ability to take passengers and cargo anywhere — particularly off the beaten path. Buyers can rest assured that a multitude of features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, advanced safety features such as Rear Cross Path detection, Forward Collision Warning-Plus, Blind-spot Monitoring, and adaptive cruise control come standard.

All Gladiator vehicles are Trail Rated regardless of trim and include a trail rated badge that indicates the pickup is engineered to tackle challenging off-road terrain regardless of driving conditions. The 2020 Gladiator delivers on five key performance benchmarks: water fording, articulation, maneuverability, traction, and ground clearance. As the top-tier trim, the Gladiator Rubicon, features red tow hooks, the Rock-Trac 4×4 system, a two-speed transfer case with a 4:1 low-range gear ratio, a segment-exclusive electronic sway bar disconnect, 33-inch Falken Wildpeak All-Terrain off-road tires, and Tru-Lok electric front- and rear-axle lockers.
