The Jeep’s first prototype was revealed on September 23, 1940, and the company began producing their vehicles for the military in 1941. Almost 75 years later, enthusiasts will be driving their four-wheel drive vehicles for more than 300 miles as they honor their favorite company.

_Sure, it’s nowhere close to your local Miami Jeep dealership , but it still makes for a great story, regardless of where it takes place. _

The Iowa Jeep Club is planning a cross-state road trip this weekend, starting in Muscatine and finishing on the other side of the state in Sioux City. The ride is expected to take about nine hours. The group was created in 2013, and they’re accepting of any 4×4’s, not just Jeeps. It costs $35 a year to become a member, and the group sponsors plenty of other events throughout the year, including the Iowa Jeep Show every September.

Besides spreading their love of the Jeep, the crew will also be hoping to raise money for charity during their ‘Great Jeep Ride Across Iowa.’ The group is supporting the Puppy Jake Foundation, a nonprofit organization that assists wounded veterans with the help of professionally trained dogs. Based out of Des Moines, the group primarily serves veterans who live throughout the Midwest. Those hoping to make donations can do so through the foundation’s website.

This isn’t the only Jeep club in the country, and they’re not the only group to capitalize on their love of Jeeps to help a worthy cause. During the annual Camp Jeep New York, the brand often raises more than $10,000 for “Tigers Forever,” a wildlife preservation foundation. There’s the Fallen Heroes Jeep, a souped-up version of your favorite SUV that raises awareness and money for a variety of different charities. Finally, there’s the Jeep Jam in Indiana, a family-friendly fundraiser that benefits military families.

Jeep fans are clearly a sentimental, caring group, and these various events are a great way to raise awareness for a particular foundation. They’re also a great way to show off your favorite Jeep!

If you’re a Jeep enthusiast, you should keep up with this story. The organizers are hoping it transforms into an annual event, so you could participate in the future. If the distance is too much, maybe rip a page from the Iowa Jeep Club’s book and begin organizing your own group!
