2020 has brought some good news, despite the many challenges of this year, Dodge has revealed a new Dodge SRT Hellcat (Street Racing Technology) nameplate. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), the parent company of Dodge, has named the Dodge Durango to the SRT family, but now they will make a new SRT Hellcat trim. Coming to the 2021 Dodge Durango, will we see a 6.2-Liter supercharged V8 engine? The indication is that’s going in the upcoming Durango. The current fastest Dodge Durango is the SRT that provides a 6.4-Liter HEMI V8 powertrain that provides 475 horsepower to go with a 470 lb-ft of torque rating. While very impressive, FCA and Dodge are all about pushing the limits.
Does the Future Have A New Hellcat Trim For the Durango?
The future of Dodge vehicles is truly an intriguing topic. SUVs have earned a greater reputation for offering solid mpg ratings more so today than a decade ago. Earlier this year, a report from Mopar Insiders revealed a mild-hybrid version of the soon-to-be-made 2021 Dodge Durango. According to sources from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), the expectation will be to include the Pentastar 3.6-Liter with eTorque engine as the standard powertrain that provides drivers with 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque in SXT trim. That much is confirmed, but we know there is a chance to surprise and delight with a new powertrain. What else does Dodge have planned for the Durango going forward? Maybe another Dodge Viper run?
Original of the Durango SRT Hellcat
Dodge first put together a Hellcat Durango as a part of their law enforcement-only model, the Dodge 2019 Durango Pursuit. The police were able to gain the strength of a 797-horsepower Hellcat Redeye engine. A report from Road & Track remarked they saw firsthand a Hellcat badge on a Durango in a now-removed trailer for the latest “Fast & Furious” film. Then, Mopar Insiders added they predict the Durango SRT Hellcat is going to happen, but most likely with the first Hellcat engine that includes a powerful 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque for owners. This may be a special-edition Durango, but time will tell for the specifics.
