Dodge Durango Named Fastest SUV for the Money by U.S. News & World Report
When did super-powered SUVs and crossovers become the next big thing in the auto industry? There’s the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. They’re all powerful vehicles with amazing racing times, but the cost for any of them will set a consumer back. The MSRP for the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is around $86,000. So when it comes to an SUV that’s fast _ and _ affordable, _ U.S. News & World Report _ put the masses to rest and named the 2018 Dodge Durango R/T on their list for the “Fastest Cars for the Money in 2018.”
When it comes to finding a car with heart-pounding performance, it’s easy. As we already noted, there are plenty of options. Finding a vehicle with performance that gets the adrenaline going but won’t break the bank is a little more difficult. When it comes to the exciting vehicles that consumers love to race, it may seem like having a fat wallet is the only way to go. Luckily, there are actually a number of available vehicles that blend an affordable price tag with plenty of power, nimble handling, and fun-to-drive attitudes. It’s not just limited to sports cars and muscle cars either – SUVs and crossovers have fun too.
_ U.S. News & World Report _ is a respected piece of literature that is a recognized leader in college, grad school, hospital, mutual fund, and car rankings. The company as a whole is a media company that publishes news, opinion, consumer advice, rankings, and analysis on a multitude of subjects. Automotive being one of them, recently the _ U.S. News & World Report _ put together their list of Fastest Cars for the Money in 2018 and named the 2018 Dodge Durango R/T.
There aren’t a whole lot of affordable midsize SUVs that carry big V8 engines. The 2018 Dodge Durango is one of few exceptions, powered by a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that produces 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Optimized with variable valve timing (VVT) for high performance, the Dodge Durango R/T can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds and run a quarter mile in 14.7 seconds. Thanks to its multi-displacement system (MDS), the Durango R/T also manages to conserve some fuel economy with 22 mpg on the highway. With 390 lb-ft of torque, this same R/T SUV can tow up to 7400 pounds when properly equipped.
There were other vehicles named by _ U.S. News & World Report _ that are fast and affordable that consumers can find here at Miami Lakes Automall if not interested in an SUV. The list consists of the 2018 Kia Stinger GT , 2018 Chevrolet Bolt EV (yes, really), 2018 Dodge Charger R/T , 2018 Chevrolet Camaro with a V6 engine, the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, and 2018 Jeep Wrangler .
If money isn’t a problem, then some consumers may be interested in the specs of the Dodge Durango SRT , Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, or Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Powered by a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine, the Dodge Durango SRT can generate 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, and has a towing capacity of 8,600 pounds. Paired with a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission, the Dodge Durango SRT also has a cold air intake via an air scoop on the hood of the vehicle to keep the engine cool and filter cooler air into it. The 2018 Dodge Durango SRT has record times of 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and a quarter-mile lap of 12.9 seconds.
More of a Jeep fan? The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT drives on a 4×4 drivetrain only and is powered by a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine that generates 474 horsepower and paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters for manual gear shifting. This beastly SUV can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and run a quarter-mile lap in 13 seconds flat. This is of course usurped by its more powerful sibling, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk . Powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI SRT V8 engine that generates 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque, this is not an SUV to mess with. The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and run a quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds.
