The IIHS Honors The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica With Its TOP SAFETY PICK+ – Miami Lakes Automall Chrysler
Once again, the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica shows why it’s THE family minivan as the IIHS (Insurance Institute of Highway Safety) gave the vehicle the TOP SAFETY PICK+.
Vehicles that are given the IIHS rating are those built after September 2021, following an improvement with the headlamp performance and the adding of the standard Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB).
“Winning the highest IIHS safety rating of TSP+ distinguishes the Chrysler Pacifica’s superior safety technology and performance,” said Chrysler Brand CEO Chris Feuell. “Pacifica is the perfect choice for modern families who are looking for a minivan with the greatest combination of safety, functionality and value.”
The Pacifica received a “good” grade, which is the highest possible rating within the six main crashworthiness tests conducted by the IIHS:
- Small overlap front (on the driver side)
- Small overlap front (on the passenger side)
- Moderate overlap, front
- Side impact
- Roof strength
- Head restraints and seats
Standard equipment in the Pacifica includes the AEB (automatic emergency brakings) system, which earned a “superior” rating, the highest possible from the IIHS grading system. It includes a new assortment of camera equipment and radar sensors that provide a wider field of view than the former system.
Fusing the two methods of object detection allows for redundancy, which promotes system performance.
The AEB system, which is prominent across the Stellantis project lineup as a standard interior feature, identifies when particular frontal collisions may be looming. If sensors pick up these conditions, this will enable visual and audible alerts, and should the driver fail to respond, the system may enable the vehicle’s brakes to aid in avoiding an impact or decrease its severity.
The Chrysler Pacifica’s Pedestrian AEB system also received an “advanced” rating.
This year’s Chrysler Pacifica is the only minivan in North America with second-row Stow ’n Go seating, which has the advantage of folding into the floor along with AWD (all-wheel-drive).
The minivan’s AWD technology seamlessly engages no matter the speed, and without any action needed by the driver. Should any of the wheels experience a loss in traction, the system will automatically transfer the available engine torque to the wheels with more traction for increased control.
The same rings true for the Pacifica Hybrid, a plug-in electric vehicle (PHEV).
The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica has earned about 160 industry honors and accolades, making the car industry’s most awarded vehicle in its segment over the last five years.
