Chrysler Eyes All-New All-Electric Sedan
An all-new all-electric sedan may be in the works according to Chrysler’s CEO Christine Feuell. Feuell recently touted the idea of an all-electric sedan at the 2023 Reuters’ Automotive USA Summit in Detroit. This consideration comes as part of an effort to further solidify Chrysler’s legacy within the car segment. As such, the Stellantis subsidiary will focus on evolving its strategies as it faces an ever-approaching world in demand for EVs. This decision also comes off the back of the automaker’s plans to end the production of one of its iconic sedans, the Chrysler 300. We’ll see what this means for the overall sedan segment and how EVs will play a role in Chrysler’s future.
Chrysler Eyes New Strategies In Preparation For EV Transition
An all-new all-electric sedan may be in the works according to Chrysler CEO Christine Feuell. Feuell recently spoke at the 2023 Reuters’ Automotive USA summit in Detroit, Michigan, where he discussed the idea for an all-electric sedan that could carry on the automaker’s passenger car legacy. This new electric sedan would replace the iconic Chrysler 300 as the automaker plans for an electric future. About the potential EV sedan, Christine Feuell said,
“It made me kind of sad to see a lot of the OEMs walking away from the car segment,” Feuell said. “And if you think about what customers are looking for in an EV, yes, the want range. They want accessible charging. They want something that’s affordable. And from [that] perspective, I think we’ll see a resurgence in the car segment.”
Chrysler has already teased an EV concept having showcased a sedan similar to the Chrysler Airflow during its 2021 EV Day presentation. The concept featured a sleek front and sloping hatchback presenting an overall evolved form of the Chrysler 300. Given Feuell’s comments, it seems that there may already be something already stirring in production.
Aside from a potential new electric sedan, Chrysler is aiming to introduce 3 new software platforms that will help it transition toward an electric future. These include STLA Brain, STLA SmartCockpit, and STLA AutoDrive. Together, these platforms would enable level 3 automated driving which, while pricey, could transform how consumers drive and operate their vehicles. For now, we will have to see what Chrysler has in store, as well as the influence this may have on the automotive industry.
