The Traverse is one of the most impressive vehicles on the market, and for the second-straight year, the SUV has been recognized as one of the best family vehicles on the market by Edmunds.com. Predictably, Chevy was rather happy with the accolades and recognition.

“Chevrolet is honored that the Traverse is recognized for the second consecutive year by the experts at Edmunds.com and Parents,” said Steve Majoros, the marketing director of Chevrolet cars and crossovers. “Traverse’s winning combination blends the capability and roominess of a traditional SUV with the attributes of a crossover, including a car-like driving experience, low step-in height and good efficiency on the highway.”

Of course, the vehicle also has several attributes that makes it an ideal choice for road tripping. What could this SUV possibly offer that others could not? The Traverse features a unique combination of technology, roominess, and safety. No other vehicle offers these types of capabilities, and no other SUV offers all of these amenities with only a $28,700 price tag.

Entertainment

Your passengers will never get bored while riding in the new Traverse, as the vehicle boasts plenty of impressive technological features. For starters, there are USB ports found throughout the SUV, meaning your phones and gadgets will never run out of battery. If you have children, they’ll appreciate the rear entertainment system. Besides being able to watch their favorite DVDs, the passengers can even connect their favorite game system. Having issues keeping your children occupied during a road trip? You won’t have any of those problems while riding in the Traverse.

A long trip can get boring for the driver, as well. Luckily, there are plenty of features that will improve the overall driving experience. Via the available Bluetooth technology, drivers can access many of their phone’s basic capabilities with the Chevrolet MyLink system. You can access your contacts, make phone calls, and even schedule texts! Need to make an important work call, or maybe you want to pass the time by speaking with a friend? You can accomplish all of this with the Traverse, and we’ll be following safe driving habits, as well.

Furthermore, the driver can take advantage of any of these features via the wheel-mounted buttons or the standard 6.5-inch color touch-screen. This center screen also allows drivers to utilize the advanced OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation system, which provides you with 2D/3D maps and the SiriusXM NavTraffic (with accompanying technology that assures that you’ll always be taking the quickest route).

While we’re discussing technology, we might as well point out the innovative OnStar RemoteLink app. You can easily remotely start your Traverse, lock or unlock the vehicle, and activate your SUV’s horn and lights. There’s truly not much that the Traverse can’t do.

Safety

traverse-3

The Traverse is one of the safest vehicles in the class, having earned a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The SUV includes a number of capable safety features that will help protect all of the vehicle’s occupants.

Every vehicle features air bags, but the Traverse separates itself with its innovative deployment. The front-center air bag comes out from the right of the driver and sets itself between the front seats, providing the driver and front passenger with additional “cushioning and restraint.” The deployment also helps prevent the driver and passenger from colliding in the event of a side-impact collision. There are six standard air bags in all, including the side-impact system. Drivers can also rely on the vehicle’s inclusion of high-strength materials, as well as the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system, two features that will keep you and your occupants safe.

Of course, we’d hope that you’ll never have to take advantage of any of the previously mentioned safety qualities, and there’s a good chance that accidents will be avoided with the new Traverse. The SUV helps lower the chances of an accident by its preventative safety features, like the StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System with Traction Control. This system helps keep your vehicle on its intended path, and it assures that the driver will keep control in any conditions. Other technological safety features include the side blind zone alert (which helps alert the driver of any vehicles that may be in their blind spot) and the Rear Cross Traffic Alert (assists in helping the driver switch lanes).

In the case of an emergency, the vehicle’s OnStar system will assist with sending emergency personnel. Using the Automatic Crash Response technology, an OnStar Advisor can access your vehicle’s GPS to send any requested help to your area.

Roominess

A long road trip requires some room to spread out. It can be rough being cramped inside a vehicle for hours, and each of your passengers is going to want some space to spread their legs. Plus, you’ll need to somehow find some extra room for all of your luggage. This isn’t possible with most vehicles on the market.

Luckily, the Traverse delivers with comfort technologies and plenty of passenger and cargo space. “Supple touch surfaces” are found throughout the vehicle, and the occupants will appreciate the heated/cooled seats and tri-zone climate control, which ensures that each of the passengers can enjoy their optimal comfort level.

Of course, as we previously mentioned, the ability to stretch is essential. Up front, occupants can expect 58-inches of hip room, 41.3-inches of leg room, and 61.5-inches of shoulder room. The second and third row are just as roomy, featuring plenty of hip room (57.8 inches and 48.3 inches, respectively), leg room (36.8 inches, 33.2 inches) and shoulder room (61 inches, 57.6 inches).

The vehicle also includes a class-leading 116.3-cubic-feet of maximum cargo space and an appreciated 24.4-cubic-feet of room behind the third row. The seats can be adjusted several different ways to provide an optimal storage area, with the Smart Slide second-row seating and the second-row flat-folding captain’s chair allowing for maximum flexibility. To put it over the top, the power-remote liftgate will make unloading any of your cargo significantly easier.

If you have any large cargo that can’t possibility fit inside of the SUV, you can simply rely on the Traverse’s 5,200-pound trailering capacity. This means you’ll be able to haul around any small boat or trailer, taking full advantage of the impressive 3.6-liter V6 engine (281/288 horsepower, 266/270 pounds-feet of torque).

As you can see, the upcoming Traverse isn’t only the ultimate family vehicle, but it’s the perfect choice for road trip. The SUV contains a number of technological features to keep all of the vehicle’s occupants entertained, there’s plenty of room to spread out, and (perhaps most importantly) the vehicle is extremely safe. When you’re driving across the country, do you really need anything else? For an affordable price, we’d say that’s very unlikely.
