The 2016 Malibu is debuting more than its complete redesign – it also has advanced teen driving safety technology that is catching this * Miami Chevy dealer’s * attention.
Having a teen driver can be a scary thing. Parents are faced with constant worry when their teenage son or daughter hits the open road, and the fear of the unknown is the worst part. Chevrolet has been working on a new safety features, that helps teenagers stay safe on the road, and helps parents feel more comfortable with their new teenage driver.
Teen Driver Safety Technology: What is it?
Featured on the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, the new teen driver safety technology is a way for parents to keep tabs on their teenagers, in more ways than one. General Motors released a statement last week, claiming that this new technology is “The first in the industry with a built-in system that lets parents view on a display how their teenager drove the vehicle.” While GPS tracking has become a popular option for parents, this new technology goes a step beyond.
Once a teen driver has arrived safely at home, parents can check their driving statistics on the Malibu’s touchscreen display. Maximum speeds, distance driven, and how often active safety features were engaged, are all reported to concerned parents. The newest safety technology from Chevrolet will be standard on the 2016 Malibu Premier model, and optional on 2016 Malibu LT models equipped with the optional Convenience Package.
Promotes Good Driving Habits
Chevrolet’s teen driver safety technology allows parents to change settings for when their teenager is behind the wheel. The Malibu’s audio will be muted if front seat passengers are not wearing their seat belts, and the system will give audible and visual warnings when the teenager drives at speeds greater than those preset by the parents.
Teenagers behind the wheel of Malibu’s equipped with this technology, will be more aware of their driving habits, and are expected to be safer behind the wheel. Those same teenagers may not like the new technology, but with the leading cause of death for U.S. teens being motor vehicle accidents, it is definitely a nice safety feature to have.
The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is completely redesigned for this model year, and will hit dealer showrooms this coming fall.
