New Engine Coming For The Chevrolet Silverado

* * What separates vehicles from other vehicles is the engine and the strength of that powertrain. Chevrolet has recently announced the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with a rapid speed engine in the 2.7-Liter Turbo offered exclusively for the Silverado pickup. The engine will be built at General Motors’ Tennessee facility and will be available in the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 at our dealership this fall.
* * Innovation With the All-New Engine
* * The all-new 4-cylinder, 2.7L engine in the 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 is ideal for drivers that want to experience a strong ride, but are fuel conscious. Standard on the Silverado 1500 LT and RST trims, the brand new engine is become more efficient and actually provides more peak torque performance than the 4.3-liter V6 engine that the new 2.7L engine will replace. The 2.7L engine provides up to 22 lb-ft more torque than the 4.3L engine. Additionally, the Hydra-Matic eight-speed automatic transmission features enhancements designed to improve the quality of the shift to make it smooth in transition.
* * Not only is the 2.7-liter turbo engine strong (310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque), the next-generation Silverado 1500 has increased acceleration time as it is able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than seven seconds. The all-new Silverado 1500 is also 380 pounds lighter than the 2018 Chevy Silverado.
* * Comparable Powertrains
* * The payload capabilities are close to competitors like the Ford F-150 XLT with a 3.3-liter V6 engine and the Ram 1500 Big Horn with the 3.6-Liter V6 engine. “The new 2.7L Turbo is a technological marvel, with our most advanced valvetrain,” said Tom Sutter, chief engineer for the 2.7L Turbo in the 2019 Silverado 1500. “With a broad, flat torque curve and quick throttle response, it punches above its weight, delivering surprising performance and efficiency.”
* * Increased Fuel Efficiency
* * This is Chevrolet’s first use of Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) for any four-cylinder engine. The 4-cylinder engine of the 2019 Silverado 1500 means drivers will be able to conserve fuel when cruising using the engine’s modern continuously variable valve timing to allow fuel to be consumed sparingly. Additional engine technologies supporting the engine’s performance and efficiency, such as the dual-volute turbocharger housing, provides improved throttle response and low-speed torque.
* * Another first is Chevrolet’s application of Active Thermal Management. This helps target engine heating and cooling depending on the current surroundings (cold or warm weather) and an integrated exhaust manifold that is part of the cylinder head assembly and recovers exhaust heat for faster engine and transmission warm up. This will also improve the turbo response to work even faster. This electric water pump is yet another first for Chevy and will work to enhance the performance by removing the drag from a conventional, engine-driven pump.
* * Further Advancements
* * Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickups are known for being tough, dependable and the 2.7-Liter Turbo engine will give drivers powerful low-end torque with improved combustion and a higher compression ratio as a result. With testing for this engine matching the same standards as the proven Silverado V8 engines, customers can expect a vehicle built for everyday use and continued production with this all-new Silverado 1500.
* * The new engine’s advanced dual-volute turbocharger has even better efficiency than a conventional turbo engine thanks to the quicker response and enhanced low-rpm torque production.
