Texting while driving is one of the most important safety issues of our day. Not only is it one of the most dangerous activities that drivers can engage in, but it is also one of the most common.

Many people think that they can text safely while they drive. They don’t see the harm in tapping out a quick message to a friend to say they are running late or to reply to a question. The Federal Communications Commission says that 40 percent of all teenagers say they had been in a car when they felt that the driver was using a cell phone in a way that put others in danger, such as texting.

Texting while driving is a serious and growing issue. Many states have already enacted bans against texting while driving, but some have not. Even where there are bans, many drivers ignore the law, and their actions are only discovered after they have been in an accident – when it may already be too late for them and their passengers.
