Celebrating Camaro’s 50th Anniversary with a Die Hard Camaro Fan
2017 is the Camaro’s 50th anniversary and Chevy is celebrating by releasing a special-edition 2017 Camaro 50th Anniversary Edition. But of course, Chevy is not the only one having fun. Since its creation in 1967, the Chevy Camaro has gained a large following of loyal car enthusiasts and we’re lucky enough to share the story of one of them, Brandon Hill.
Hill’s love for muscle cars and Camaros began during his childhood and as a kid he would watch his cousins drag race their 1969 Camaros. Though Hill has always appreciated all types of cars, especially muscle cars, it wasn’t until 2010 when the fifth-generation Camaro was released that he became a loyal fan.
“After seeing the new fifth-gen Camaro at the dealership, I immediately traded in my Mustang for the Camaro,” said Hill. “I bought my fifth-generation Camaro brand new off the showroom floor in March 2011. It was my daily driver for about 3 years.”
About a year after owning his Synergy Green Metallic 2011 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS/RS, Hill attended Camaro5 Fest III, a large Camaro meet held at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana, and ever since then he’s been “addicted to the drag strip.” After 30+ passes on the drag strip and placing fourth in his category, Hill just wanted to go “faster and faster” and the major modifications began.
Hill’s first modifications were exhaust (Magnaflow Comp Series w/ Tru-X pipe), cold air intake (Cold Air Inductions), and high flow cats (Solo), but that’s just a tiny piece of everything he has done in the last few years (full list below).
Since those first mods, Hill has invested about $25,000 in parts and labor, which is totally worth it for a speed loving Camaro fan like Brandon. Hill typically installs most modifications (except transmission or gear work) by himself, and he even rebuilt a new motor for his fifth generation Camaro.
Hill’s fifth generation Camaro does a quarter-mile in 10.78 seconds and it is currently ranked ninth in the United States in the Fifth Generation Naturally Aspired Stock Bottom End category.
He no longer uses his fifth generation Camaro as a daily driver, he leaves that up to his new sixth-generation Mosaic Black Metallic 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 1SS. And when the weather gets bad, he keeps both Camaro’s tucked in his garage and takes out his 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.
