Performance
Engine Type With the 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage carrying over for 2022, the lineup may change up a bit to replace the old Carbonite Edition trim level. Assuming the lineup doesn’t diminish to just three trims, the new lineup will be ES, LE, “X”, and SE. Like last year, the entire lineup is powered by a 1.2-liter Inline 3-cylinder DOHC engine optimized with MIVEC, Mitsubishi Motors own variable valve timing (VVT) for improving engine performance and fuel efficiency. The engine is capable of generating 76 horsepower and 75 lb-ft of torque.
* Engineering * If the 2022 model gets some upgrades, then the entire lineup may now come standard with the INVECS-III Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), currently standard on all trims past the base and an optional upgrade for the ES. If the CVT isn’t the lineup standard, the ES comes with a five-speed manual transmission as the default option. This brings the fuel economy of the 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage to 33/40 mpg city/highway vs the fuel economy of models with the CVT of 36 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the highway.
Style
Exterior Features The Mitsubishi Mirage has a life of simplicity with halogen headlights, LED taillights, and a rear spoiler as the main standard features. LED headlights will become available in 2022, and automatic, to go with the LED high beams in 2021. The SE trim also comes with fog lights and side mirrors with turn signal indicators. The base ES trim rides on 14-inch steel wheels, but the standard for the rest of the lineup is 15-inch alloy wheels.
Interior Features Standard throughout the lineup, consumers will find the cabin has a 6-way adjustable driver seat, 4-way adjustable passenger seat, automatic climate control, steering wheel-mounted audio and phone controls, rear heater ducts, and a rear seat pass through to the trunk. The standard seat trim is cloth, but leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shift knob, and heated front seats become available on higher trims, typically reserved for the SE trim. Look out for possible options if a new trim replaces the Carbonite Edition.
Technology
Entertainment Still working out the kinks with its infotainment with Google, Mitsubishi Motors is still making a 7-inch smartphone-link display audio system the standard. This system comes equipped with four speakers, AM/FM Radio, Bluetooth wireless technology, and Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A Rockford Fosgate sound system is an optional upgrade on the SE trim.
Safety Features and Warranty The 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 comes with many basic safety features, including an advanced dual-stage airbags (including the driver’s knee airbag), anti-locking brakes, active stability control, three-point seatbelts, a LATCH child seat tether system, a rearview camera, and an anti-theft engine immobilizer. All vehicles are built with Mitsubishi’s signature RISE body construction method. Advanced features like forward collision mitigation system with pedestrian control, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning are available on select trims. All Mitsubishi vehicles are covered by a basic limited warranty for 5 years/60,000 miles, a powertrain limited warranty for 10 years/100,000 miles, 7 years or 100,000 miles of anti-corrosion coverage, and roadside assistance.
