Performance
Engine Type With the exception of the Tahoe’s High Country trim, all 2021 models have a standard 5.3-liter V8 that pushes out 355 horsepower with 383 lb-ft of torque. Buyers also get the option of selecting the 3.0-liter turbodiesel 6-cylinder (all except for Z71’s), this motor produces 277 horsepower with 460 lb-ft of torque. High Country Tahoe’s are the only ones that have the benefit of the 6.2-liter V8, it drives on 420 horsepower with 460 lb-ft of torque. All three engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel-drive (RWD) is standard on all but the Z71, which has a four-wheel-drive (4WD). However, 4WD is optional for all other models.
Driving and Handling It shouldn’t serve too much of a surprise that Chevrolet has made use of the big and bad V8, as the motor has stood by the Tahoe’s side through many previous model years. However, the engine is more advanced and refined than ever before, as both V8 engines have better fuel economy numbers than the 2020. Of course, those who prefer more power will want to opt for High Country’s 6.2-L, especially since it will have the most features. On the other hand, Chevrolet’s new 3.0-L turbo is much more than its 277 horsepower. The torque is the same as the 6.2-L and provides the best fuel economy out of the three engines, with a city EPA of 21 mpg/20 mpg (4WD) and highway EPA of 28 mpg (RWD)/26 (4WD).
Style
Exterior Features The latest Tahoe is now half a foot longer with 210.7 inches. The full-sized SUV keeps its classic boxy style, but with a bit of 2021 tune-up. The front now has a unique and curvaceous pair of running and standard LED headlights by the grille. Other than the LS, all models get a power-operated and hands-free tailgate. RST Tahoe’s provide a bit of edge with their blacked-out features and large 22-inch wheels, while the Z71 has a distinctive front fascia, a skid plate, and bold red tow hooks. Finally, the new High Country trim brings on bronze grille accents, optional power-retractable assist steps, and glossy 22-inch wheels.
Interior Features The 3-row Chevy model can accommodate up to eight passengers, but of course, that depends on whether the buyer opts for a bench rather than two captain’s seats in the second row. Either way, these seats have attractive upholstery that ranges from deluxe cloth to perforated leather. Drivers will also appreciate the user-friendly controls and its simple layout. The third row has a great deal of legroom, specifically by 10-inches. Cargo space has also expanded with 25.5 cubic-feet with the rear seats up and 123 cubic feet with the seats down.
Technology
Conveniences Entry-level Tahoe vehicles have comforts that include premium cloth seating, tri-zone climate control, remote engine start, 8-way power front seats, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a mechanical limited-slip differential. On top of this, all models get a large 10-inch touchscreen that has infotainment functions and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Other standard features encompass a 6-speaker audio system, GM’s OnStar connected services with 4G LTE, and in-vehicle Wi-Fi. If that laundry list of features wasn’t enough for you, then consider the Tahoe LT, as this has indulgences like a hands-free power tailgate, leather seating with a memory driver’s seat, 9-speaker Bose audio system, wireless phone charging, and heated front seats.
Safety Features and Warranty It’s recommended for all buyers of the 2021 Tahoe to add on the Driver Alert Package, as this bundle will provide you with excellent safety technologies like lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear parking sensors. Premier and High Country models will already have this package as a standard. Regardless, all trims include a forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking. Warranties include a Limited coverage of three years or 36,000 miles, Powertrain coverage for five years or 60, 000 miles, as well as complimentary maintenance for the first visit.
