With the 2019 Ram 1500 having recently debuted and going into production, it’s a perfect time to take a look at some of the most powerful trims Ram has in their pickup truck lineup. It’s not easy to pick out the toughest Ram truck models, especially with the larger vehicles like the heavy duty 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 models, so we’re just going to focus on three Ram truck trims designed for off-roading. The three best off-road Ram truck trims are the Ram 1500 Rebel, the Ram Power Wagon, and the upcoming TRX series.
2018 Ram 1500 Rebel
Standard on the Ram 1500 Rebel is the 3.6-liter V6 engine, optimized with variable valve timing (VVT) technology to increase its performance. With this engine, the Ram 1500 Rebel can generate 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. If looking for more power when going off-road, then consumers will also want more torque. With that comes the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine and it is able to generate 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.
The Ram 1500 Rebel and Ram 2500 are both similar looking 4×4 trucks built to be durable, rugged off-road trucks. However, the Ram 1500 Rebel is a light-duty truck and the Ram 2500 Power Wagon is a heavy-duty truck and they both have different engines, off-road features, towing capabilities and prices. Not sure which of these trucks to choose? Read on!
Engine, Performance and Capability
The Ram 1500 Rebel is available with two engine options, a 3.6-liter V6 engine or a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine. The 3.6L engine produces 205 horsepower, 269 lb-ft of torque and gives the Ram 1500 Rebel a maximum towing capacity of 7,130 pounds. The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine increases the truck’s horsepower, torque and maximum towing capacity to 395 horses, 410 lb-ft of torque, and 9,350 pounds of towing capacity.
The heavy-duty Ram 2500 Power Wagon is equipped with a larger 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine. The 6.4L engine produces best-in-class 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, both of which help the 2500 Power Wagon to achieve its maximum towing capacity of 10,030 pounds.
Exterior and Off-Road Features
Aside from their size, the Ram 1500 Rebel and Ram 2500 Power Wagon look very similar. Both trucks have black accents, projector headlamps with black bezels, and the RAM logo on both the grille and the tailgate. Both trucks are only available as four-door crew cabs, but since the Ram 1500 Rebel is a light-duty truck, it is a little smaller than the heavy-duty Ram 2500 Power Wagon. (more…)
