Ram Trucks Files for “Dakota” Trademark

Thursday, May 7th, 2020

Detroit’s Big Three automakers ditched the midsize pickup truck long ago in the early 2010s, largely letting foreign automakers such as Toyota and Nissan fill that segment. But all of that’s changing now, as midsize trucks have seen an uptick in popularity these past few years. While Ford revived its Ranger model and Chevrolet brought back the Colorado, Ram has remained noticeably absent from the midsize pickup segment. All that’s about to change though, as Ram featured a midsize pickup addition to its lineup in the brand’s five-year plan back in 2018. We just discovered the latest bit of evidence that Ram’s midsize pickup in question is likely to enter the segment soon.  (more…)

A Trip Down Memory Lane With Ram Trucks

Friday, May 1st, 2020

The Ram Truck brand has quite a storied past, with its humble beginnings as part of the Dodge D-Series pickup lineup. It wasn’t until the beginning of the last decade when Ram spun off and became its own brand apart from Dodge. Given its meteoric rise in the past ten years, other automakers are closely studying Ram’s process to see if any of their vehicles can be turned into their own brand, like the Chevy Corvette for example. The pickup segment is more popular than ever, and Ram’s sales have been skyrocketing every year since its spin-off, with a worldwide 2019 total of 730,457 units. Here’s how Ram and its lineup has changed and affected the market over its 35 years (and counting) of existence. (more…)

Is a Compact Ram Pickup in the Works?

Friday, April 24th, 2020

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) occupies quite a space on the global stage and its specialty lies in dispersing a very varied lineup across the globe. In fact, FCA recently introduced the new Fiat Strada in South America, but rumor has it that the very same model may debut in nearby Mexico — with a possible arrival in the U.S. — as the Ram 700. A smaller Ram pickup coming to the U.S. sounds like a promising addition to the existing Ram Trucks lineup. Some enthusiasts used the debut of the Fiat Strada, a vehicle that will likely serve as the blueprint for a possible Ram 700, to make a few renderings of a possible compact Ram pickup.  (more…)

Checking in With the Ram Dakota Rumors

Monday, September 23rd, 2019

Only a few years ago, the midsize pickup segment was starting to feel like a bit of a cemetery. Nowadays new midsize pickup options, such as the Jeep Gladiator and the GMC Canyon, have helped revive interest in the segment. Other truck makers are poised for a comeback with Ford announcing the return of the Ranger, while Toyota updates the Tacoma, but what’s left for Ram Trucks who has a gap in its lineup? The truck maker is rumored to be bringing back the old Dodge Dakota to the market. (more…)

Ram Dakota Definitely in the Works

Tuesday, July 2nd, 2019

Last year, Ram confirmed that it is working on a new midsize pickup truck – likely one that’ll revive the old Dakota moniker. The last time the name was used, it was applied to a midsize truck manufactured by Dodge up until the mid-2000s. Now that Ram Trucks is its own brand under Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), the Dakota is likely to be revived for the 2021 model year according to experts. This time around the Dakota will be closely related to a not-too-distant cousin, the all-new Jeep Gladiator. The Dakota’s mission will be different from that of the Jeep Gladiator as the Dakota is intended to attract a broader slice of the truck market instead of catering to those who seek a truck with off-roading capability.  (more…)
