Miami Lakes AutoMall 2019 Ram 1500 Truck of the Year

On any given week we can see a pickup truck hauling a heavy load, commuting like a sedan, towing recreational equipment such as bicycles and jet skis, chewing up muddy ranchland, or even exploring off-road trails. As the automotive landscape changes, we ask more and more of our pickup trucks than we do of any other vehicle – and we buy plenty of them (2.8 million units sold in 2017). Motor Trend, an American automobile magazine, traditionally recognizes a Truck of the Year and this year the honor goes to none other than the 2019 Ram 1500. According to Motor Trend, there isn’t a truck out there that so precisely caters to the diverse and ever-growing needs of the truck segment better than the 2019 Ram 1500. (more…)

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has finally performed crash tests on the completely redesigned 2019 Ram 1500 pickup truck, and it’s looking pretty good for Ram. Compared to the previous 2018 model year, the new generation truck makes a significant leap in crash performance with the Crew Cab model scoring a “Good” rating in all six crash categories.

The 2018 Ram 1500 model received “Good” ratings in the moderate front overlap test, side test, and the head restraint and seat test, yet received “Marginal” scores in the roof strength test. The previous year model also did not have driver-assistance/crash prevention systems like adaptive cruise control or lane keep assist. The old model also ranked “Marginal” in the driver-side small overlap test, which replicates what can happen when the front left corner of a car hits a tree or pole at 40 mph. Furthermore, the previous model was not rated in the passenger-side small overlap test. (more…)

In today’s world, we’re a little spoiled in terms of demanding more than just the average function from your vehicle. These days, consumers require state-of-the-art technology while lusting after a beautiful exterior style. Fortunately, the 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab has just that and then some.

Under The Hood

For the 2019 model year, the Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab has a powerful 395 horsepower 5.7-liter V8 HEMI engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and a Multi-Displacement System (MDS) included. According to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), VVT improves engine breathing, which improves engine efficiency and power. Ram’s fuel-saving MDS seamlessly alternates between smooth, high-fuel-economy four-cylinder mode when less power is needed, and V-8 mode when more power from the new 5.7-liter HEMI engine is in demand. The 5.7-liter engine has the option of upgrading to an eTorque System and is matched at an eight-speed automatic 8HP75 transmission.

Once equipped with the 5.7-liter V8 engine, the Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab has a maximum towing capacity of 11,340 pounds and a payload capacity, when properly equipped, of 1,770 pounds. The HEMI engine also allows for a pretty sweet entry-ramp acceleration on the highway. The Ram 1500 Laramie has a fuel economy of 20 mpg on the highway, mainly due to the active air dams and upper grille shutters to improve its aerodynamics at higher speeds. FCA engineers also decreased the Ram 1500s weight by 225 lbs. This is due to the high-strength steel, composites, and aluminum to shave the extra pounds.

Inside + Out

The exterior style of the 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab is sleek and can make anyone look like a Star Wars Villain – thanks to the sculpted hood, shiny headlamps, and elaborate in-your-face grille design. As mentioned in our “2019 Ram Storage Compartments, Even Some Hidden Ones Too” article, the interior and exterior of the 2019 Ram 1500 are loaded with plenty of storage space and hidden cargo compartments. The interior cabin screams luxury and comfort, specifically with the full leather trim, chromed-metal fixtures, and a large bench seat in the second row. For the 2019 model year, the interior cabin has been expanded by 4-inches, so the second row now has 45.1-inches of legroom and the seat can recline up to eight degrees.

Additionally, all of the seats in the Laramie trim come heated, and only the front seats offer A/C venting. So, why not in the second row? That’s due to the 40/20/40 fold-down bench seat that can be configured in order to make more room for cargo that isn’t able to be stored in the pickup bed. Along with the under seat storage option, the Laramie trim also offers RamBins. 5.5-inches longer than the previous Ram model, the RamBins can fit up to a 4-inch drop hitch with integrated tie-down loops for additional assistance in securing extra cargo. Returning for 2019 is the RamBox Cargo Management System that can be installed into the sides of the truck bed (optional add-on).

In terms of entertainment, no expense was spared in the 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie trim level. Given the option of a 12-inch touchscreen, the Laramie trim is standard with an 8.4-inch touchscreen. The impressive 12-inch touchscreen is easy and intuitive while having split-screen capabilities allowing two applications to operate at the same time. For our techie friends, there are numerous USB ports around the cabin including a USB-A and the newer USB-C for ultra-fast charging. Furthermore, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Sound System is an optional feature, while a 9-speaker system with a subwoofer comes standard. The 8.4-inch display includes Uconnect 4 that features Apple CarPlay/Google Android Auto capabilities for added convenience.

We won’t lie, parking this beast is a bit of a challenge in the city but some added walking distance really does the body good! Come test drive the 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab at the Miami Lakes Automall today!

“Out with the old and in with the new” – or in Rams case, in with the old and in with the new. What Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is now referring to as the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic actually launched back in 2012. While gradual improvements were made to the Ram over the years, surprisingly the basic design has actually been on the market for the past six years.

“As we launch the all-new 2019 Ram 1500, we didn’t want to walk away from a key part of the light-duty truck market,” explains Mike Manley, head of Ram Brand — FCA. “Ram will continue to produce the 1500 Classic targeted at entry and commercial buyers.”

The 2019 Ram 1500 Classic will feature three cabs and three bed lengths, plus 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains. Available engine options include a standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and an optional 5.7-liter V8 engine. Later on this year, a 3.0-liter V6 engine will be available as well. Lastly, a new “Classic” badge will be the cherry on the Ram cake and will set it apart from the rest. Pricing for the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic has yet to be announced, however, it will be sold simultaneously with the next-generation 2019 Ram 1500 – its replacement. Consumers can expect pricing towards the fourth-quarter launch of the truck.

For those consumers interested in a more economical option, the 2019 Ram 1500 is the perfect choice. For the 2019 model year, the Ram 1500 will be available in two flavors – 4×2 and 4×4. The Ram 1500 will also be available in four trim levels – Tradesman, Express, Big Horn/Lone Star, and Special Services Vehicle (SSV). The standard engine is a 3.6-liter V6 24-valve (that generates 305 hp and 269 lb-ft torque) and an optional 5.7-liter V8 HEMI engine (that generates 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. The V6 and V8 engines are paired to an eight-speed 850RE automatic transmission, with the V6 able to opt-in for an eight-speed 8HP75 transmission. The interior cabin has also been enhanced, and one of the most popular optional upgrades is the 12-inch touchscreen display. Also, there are five USB ports in the center console and a wider docking area available for optional wireless charging of a small tablet, 15-inch laptop, or smartphone.

However, besides the amazing features included, the 2019 Ram 1500 is actually longer, lighter, and wider than the Ram 1500 Classic. Depending on the body style, the 2019 Ram 1500 wheelbase and cab increase by 4-inches and the truck itself is 0.5-inches wider. Additionally, if consumers prefer the popular crew cab 4×4 variant, they might notice a change in the weight of the truck – 225 lbs to be exact. Not to worry, other versions have also dropped a few pounds as well.

When asked about the potential confusion that consumers may have between the Ram 1500 and Ram 1500 Classic, head of Ram Brand FCA-North America, Jim Morrison had this to say, “One of the things that clearly delineates it is the new trucks all have the new body style and the R – A – M grilles,” he said. “The old trucks are the old body style with the crosshair grille, so at 50 feet you can tell them apart.”

As previously mentioned, pricing for the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic has not been announced so follow us on social media for all the latest updates on everything Ram.
