Ram Trucks is ready to close out 2019 on top; the truck maker is about to dethrone the Chevrolet Silverado from the number two slot officially. Automotive experts believe that once everything is said and done, the truck market will be changed for years to come. Ram sold 461,115 units during the first nine months of the year (2019), averaging about 25.5 percent of the light-duty truck segment. A decade ago, when Ram was branching out as a standalone brand, it barely held 5.9 percent of the entire market. Suffice it to say; Ram certainly can be proud of its accomplishments in the past decade. Read the rest of this entry
Pickup trucks continue to make the headlines, and we’re eating up every second of it. Taking place at the annual San Antonio Auto and Truck Show, Green Car Journal announced their finalists for its high-profile Green Car Awards. The list of finalists for the 2019 Green Truck of the Year includes the Chevrolet Colorado, Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150, Ford Ranger, and the Ram 1500. In addition to the Green Truck of the Year award, the Ford Special Service Plug-in Hybrid Sedan, Ford Transit Connect, Mercedes-Benz Metris, Ram ProMaster City, and the Ram 1500 also made the cut as a finalist for the 2019 Commercial Green Car of the Year.
For the 2019 model year, the Chevy Colorado mid-size pickup features an efficient turbo diesel engine that achieves 30 highway mpg, while its sister model, the all-new Silverado, shed a few hundred pounds over the past year and also now offers a new efficient turbo diesel option. In addition to the Ford F-150 adding a new diesel powerplant into the equation, automaker’s are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the all-new mid-size Ford Ranger pickup truck – after taking a seven-year-long sabbatical. Known as the most fuel-efficient pickup truck in its segment, the Ram 1500 features an all-new efficiency-enhancing eTorque mild-hybrid system in its 3.6-liter V6 and 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine options.
“There’s no doubt this is a hot year for pickups and light commercial vehicles,” said Ron Cogan, editor, and publisher of Green Car Journal and GreenCarJournal.com. “With the availability of new-generation pickups and more efficient engine choices, this field of 2019 finalists definitely speaks to pickup and light commercial vehicle buyers who require ‘greener’ vehicles that also deliver high levels of style and functionality.”
In regards to functionality and efficiency during daily commercial operations, the Mercedes-Benz Metris, Ram ProMaster City, and the new-generation Ford Transit Connect were designed with tradesman and delivery service fleets in mind. After initially making its debut at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, Ford released an all-new Special Service Plug-in Hybrid Sedan. This new model is designed for police and fire chiefs, detectives, and law enforcement personnel who don’t necessarily require a pursuit-rated vehicle. When powered by the 7.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the new police plug-in hybrid sedan has an all-electric driving range of 21 miles that can be achieved at speeds up to 85 mph. Once the battery juice is almost depleted, the gasoline-electric hybrid generates an additional range of more than 500 miles.
“The trend toward higher efficiency and greater environmental performance is reflected by the growing number of ‘greener’ new models shown every year at the San Antonio Auto & Truck Show,” said Pam Crail, president of San Antonio Auto Dealers Association. “It’s especially important to recognize these achievements through the Green Truck of the Year™ and Commercial Green Car of the Year™ awards at our show, given South Texas’ reputation as the heart and soul of the truck country.”
Considered to play a significant role of Green Car Journal’s mission, the Green Car Awards showcase the environmental progress and its importance in the automotive industry. Looking for the most reliable pickup trucks? Look no further than Miami Lakes Automall. We have trucks from the two brands rising to the top of the charts, Ram and Chevrolet. Recently, we learned that Ram trucks are outperforming Ford, and Chevrolet is closing in on the automaker as well. Now, with a little fire that burnt down parts of the F-150 pickup Dearborn Truck Plant in Michigan (you can’t prove anything!), consumers are going to see a bit of a hiccup in inventory and supply while production of the F-150 truck comes to a screeching halt for an undisclosed amount of time. With that in the air, Ram and Chevrolet are here to pick up the slack, and Consumer Reports just named several trucks between the two automotive brands as the “Most Reliable Pickup Trucks of the Decade.”
Consumer Reports is an American magazine published by a nonprofit organization dedicated to unbiased product testing, consumer-oriented research, public education, and support. Consumer Reports publications include reviews and comparisons of consumer products and services based on reporting and results from its in-house testing laboratory and survey research center. Such consumer products have a wide range, from noise-canceling headphones to automotive vehicles. Trusted for their unbiased reviews, Consumer Reports is one of several publications consumers can turn to when looking for the truth about a product’s quality and reliability.
Named on Consumer Reports’ list of “Most Reliable Pickup Trucks of the Decade” were the Chevrolet Avalanche, Colorado, Silverado 1500, Silverado 2500HD, and Silverado 3500HD. The Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck may no longer be available as a new truck (production ended in 2013), but that doesn’t mean a consumer can’t find one used.
With the 2019 Ram 1500 coming out soon, and the pricing having been announced, we thought this would be a good time to do a comparison. At Miami Lakes Automall, we sell seven brands, including the top-selling truck brands, Ram and Chevrolet. To keep things fair however, we’ll match up both 2018 models when looking at their power and capacities. After all, we all know the specs to look for are their capabilities.
First things first, let’s clearly define the configuration of each truck. The highest trim on the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a High Country with a crew cab and four-wheel-drive. It is also available with a short truck bed or standard truck bed. To give both trucks the best chance, we’ll go with the standard 178” or 6’5” truck bed. That means for the 2018 Ram 1500, we’ll also go with a crew cab, also available with two truck bed sizes, and the Limited trim (the highest trim level), and we’re hooking it up with a 6’4” truck bed and a 4×4 drivetrain.
